Overview
As a Senior Software Engineer supporting mission-essential national security initiatives, you will design, develop, integrate, and maintain secure, high-performance software solutions that enable critical intelligence, defense, and operational missions. Working alongside engineers, analysts, and mission stakeholders, you will build scalable applications and services that directly support the protection of U.S. national security interests. This position requires a strong foundation in modern software engineering practices, the ability to work in highly collaborative Agile environments, and a commitment to developing resilient, secure, and reliable solutions for complex operational challenges. Successful candidates are passionate about solving difficult technical problems while delivering capabilities that have real-world mission impact.This position will support a mission-focused customer during the full life-cycle development of a Radio Frequency Processing System. This role is based in Hanover, Maryland. What will you do?
- Analyze user and system requirements to derive software design, interface, and performance requirements.
- Design, develop, enhance, and maintain software applications using C++, C, and Python.
- Debug existing software, troubleshoot complex technical issues, and correct software defects.
- Support the development and maintenance of scalable, highly available mission systems using modern software and system design principles.
- Develop full-stack software solutions and analyst-facing applications.
- Collaborate with systems engineers and hardware engineers to define software requirements, interfaces, system capabilities, performance requirements, and project limitations.
- Design and modify software systems using scientific analysis and mathematical models to predict and measure design outcomes and performance.
- Develop and execute test procedures for software components and integrated systems.
- Generate automation scripts to improve development workflows, system performance, testing, and operational efficiency.
- Support software deployment within containerized environments using Docker and Kubernetes.
- Review existing development practices and recommend improvements to software documentation, coding standards, testing processes, and development procedures.
- Create and maintain technical documentation throughout the software development life cycle.
- Participate in software integration, verification, validation, deployment, and sustainment activities.
Do you have what it takes?
- TS/SCI with Poly required.
- Must be a US Citizen.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mathematics, or a related technical discipline.
- A minimum of 14 years of professional software engineering experience.
- Extensive experience developing software using C++ and C.
- Strong experience developing and maintaining applications using Python, including Python-based SWORD applications or environments.
- Experience developing full-stack software applications.
- Experience developing analyst-facing applications or mission-support tools.
- Experience debugging, testing, integrating, and maintaining complex software systems.
- Experience with Kubernetes, Docker, containerization, and container orchestration.
- Experience developing scalable, reliable, and highly available software systems.
- Demonstrated ability to translate user and system requirements into effective software solutions.
- Experience working collaboratively with software, systems, and hardware engineering teams.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting Radio Frequency processing systems, signal-processing platforms, or other mission-critical technical systems.
- Experience developing software in secure, classified, or mission-focused environments.
- Familiarity with automated testing, continuous integration, and continuous deployment practices.
- Knowledge of modern software architecture, microservices, distributed systems, and container-based deployment models.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, documentation, and communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively in an adaptive, collaborative, and fast-paced engineering environment.
VTG's estimated starting pay range is $200K-$245K annually, which is a general guideline for the geographic location. When extending an offer, VTG also considers work experience, education, skill level, market considerations and may possibly include contractual requirements which may cause an offer to fall outside of this range.
