Electrician/Mechanical Technician

Summary
Reporting to the Assistant Plant Manager the Electrician/Mechanical Technician will install, maintain and repair electrical systems and equipment. This role involves both skilled electrical and mechanical work, such as installing and repairing low voltage circuits and can include other duties like checking mechanical components on Gas Turbine, Chillers and Boilers at COGEN Plant. This person must possess Electrical training through technical school program or work experience in troubleshooting, repair and maintenance systems at a power generating facility, or similar industrial setting.


Principal Responsibilities/Key Results Areas
* Service, troubleshoot/calibrate and repair boiler and heat recovery steam generator controls and air handler units.
* Review site-specific equipment manuals for maintenance and repair requirements.
* Maintain logbooks, work orders, procedures, timesheets and other documentation as required.
* Perform Preventive maintenance on equipment as provided by supervision.
* Ensure compliance with national/local electrical standards and company objectives.
* Ensure compliance with industry safe work practices.
* Review specific work for site planned outages. Verify the availability/accuracy of permits, LOTOs, contractors, test equipment, repair parts and tools.
* Be onsite during planned outages. Follow contractor work progress.
* Track site switchgear relay calibration due dates for power plant. Review and file final relay test reports.


Requirements


Knowledge & Skills



  • Must have an understanding of electrical switchgear.
  • Must possess a good understanding of operating procedures, environmental and safety rules and regulations, and first aid procedures.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license.
  • Must be skilled in:

    • The use of a variety of electrical test equipment and hand tools
    • Interpreting and following technical instruction in verbal, written, diagrammatic and schedule formats
    • Reading and interpreting electrical drawings, technical manuals, and test reports
    • Using test gauges, digital multi-meters, and specialized test equipment.


  • Specific areas of knowledge/familiarity:

    • NFPA 70E and Arc Flash hazards
    • Proper use of PPE.
    • Battery maintenance, testing and documentation.
    • Variable frequency drives.
    • Distributed control systems.


  • Must be able to maintain a professional and positive company image and positive relationships with customers, internal contractors and external contractors.
  • Must be able to effectively communicate verbally and in writing.


Physical Requirements
* Able to climb vertical stationary ladders on cooling towers and thermal storage tank.
* Routinely required to walk over uneven surfaces such as loose rock, and up and down staircases.
* Required to lift 50 lbs.
* Employee will be required to work on a computer terminal entering equipment data/job completions on plants CMMS.
