I&C Technician-II


Reporting to the Distribution Manager, the I & C Technician is responsible for supporting all electrical equipment and systems at the Pittsburgh Energy Center and customer locations. They will demonstrate hands-on and practical experience in the areas of repairs, replacement, maintenance, trouble shooting, calibration, design and installation for electrical, pneumatic systems. They will ensure plant and customer electrical equipment is serviced, maintained and repaired as recommended by the Original Equipment Manufacturer's maintenance manuals. Electrical equipment is inclusive of boilers, chillers, steam turbines, VFDs, HVAC, UPS, switchgear, starters, and meters.


The I & C Technician works daylight shift and overtime as required by the demands of the job and is paid according to the current Union (International Union of Operating Engineers Affiliated with the AFL-CIO Local No.9595A) contract.



The following list of duties is not all inclusive and is meant to serve as a guide for the scope of work to be carried out by the I & C Technician.



  • Organize, prioritize, and perform work relative to electrical circuits/systems (both high and low voltage), pneumatic, metering and fittings.
  • Calibrate, catalog, install, program and troubleshoot instrumentation/control components.
  • Inspect, design, retrofit, and test I & C systems within the plant and at customer locations.
  • Install thermal utility revenue and metering at plant and customer locations.
  • Schedule and co-ordinate all jobs (including assisting with operating and capital budgets with other departments and the management of Cordia Energy Center- Pittsburgh.
  • Support Operations, Maintenance, and Distribution departments as required.
  • Produce, maintain, and manage all electrical maintenance and repair records in accordance with federal, state, local, environmental, corporate and insurance requirements.
  • Supervise and safety train contractors.
  • Participate in Cordia's Safety Program as directed.
  • Participate in Cordia's Environmental Program as directed.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of the following disciplines: electrical code, pipe/tube fitting, job documentation, instrumentation, meter calibration, shipping/receiving, quotation/purchasing, customer relations, safety/training.
  • Comply and reinforce compliance with all Cordia Safety and Environmental Policies.
  • Manage and support specifications for capital and major maintenance projects; supervise in the role of Project Manager as required.
  • Responsible for plant-associated ancillary equipment located at UPMC Mercy facility with electrical troubleshooting/maintenance, calibration and inspection duties.
  • Obtain a working knowledge of plant and customer meter room equipment.
  • Maintain working knowledge of and use of SAP system to create work orders.
  • Evaluate and purchase supplies and parts for the plant and equipment.



Knowledge & Skills



  • Experience with commercial and/or industrial heating, cooling, pumping and District Energy systems preferred.
  • Computer proficiency required in MS Office, Excel, Word, and Outlook
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills and demonstrated ability to lead and direct maintenance staff.
  • Sufficient physical attributes to being able to work in extremely hot and cold locations, the ability to work on ladders, to lift to 75 lbs., and to work standing for several consecutive hours



Experience & Education Requirements



  • High school education


  • Minimum 3 years industrial plant electrical troubleshooting and maintenance with equivalent technical supervisory and project management experience.


  • Universal Refrigeration License, or ability to acquire in a designated period.
  • Electrical Contractors license
