The Cox First Media marketing team has a job opening for a graphic design internship position starting in January 2026.

The work is located in southwest Ohio and will be based out of the Cox First Media main office in downtown Dayton.

The paid internship is approximately 27 hours per week for 15 weeks (420 hours over 15 weeks). The exact start and stop dates, as well as the intern's weekly schedule, will be determined before the internship begins based on the intern's needs and company needs, but will fall between Jan. 5, 2026 and May 1. 2026.

Assignments may include but are not limited to:

  • Producing multiple graphic design and marketing campaign elements per week in a fast-paced environment. The intern will be assigned to a marketing manager who will guide their assignments and provide coaching and training about approaching their project plans and deliverables.
  • Creating and delivering graphics, videos and marketing pieces, which will require the intern to focus on creativity, production speed and branding accuracy.
  • Producing graphics, photos, and videos as assigned by managers across the Cox First Media team.
  • Helping to craft marketing promotion plans for our business.
  • Working with other parts of our operation for exposure to our business, including the content and sales teams.

Minimum requirements:

  • Currently enrolled in a related degree program such as graphic design, illustration, or visual communication.
  • Interest in pursuing a career in graphic design and media.
  • Have a valid driver's license and access to transportation to get to the office.


Preferred qualifications: One or more of the following:

  • Experience in working for a student or professional business or other relevant graphic design work.
  • Proficiency in design software such as the Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator) and knowledge of other design tools preferred.
  • A solid understanding of core design principles such as layout, typography, color theory, and composition.
  • Familiarity with trends and an awareness of current design, market, and social media campaign strategies to reach digital audiences is beneficial.


Our organization is in a hybrid work environment with a mix of working from home and working in the office. We expect our intern to be able to come into the office or go out on assignments (photography needs, etc.) in our business areas as needed.

The Journal-News is the main local news source for Butler County, focusing on coverage of Hamilton, Middletown, Fairfield, West Chester Twp. and Liberty Twp.

The Springfield News-Sun is the main local news source for Clark and Champaign counties, focusing on coverage of Springfield and the surrounding communities.

USD 14.71 - 22.12 per hour

Compensation:

Hourly base pay rate is $14.71 - $22.12/hour. The hourly base rate may vary within the anticipated range based on factors such as the ultimate location of the position and the selected candidate's knowledge, skills, and abilities. Position may be eligible for additional compensation that may include commission (annual, monthly, etc.) and/or an incentive program.
