About the Job

Position Overview

This Editorial Assistant supports the Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Family Violence (JOFV). JOFV receives approximately 775 new submissions and 375 revised submissions each year. The Editorial Assistant primarily supports the Editor-in-Chief with finding qualified peer reviewers, sending review invitations, and tracking manuscript process.

This is a temporary position (0001), estimated at approximately 10 hours of work per week.

Job Responsibilities

Recruitment (80%)

  • Assist the Editor-in-Chief in inviting qualified scholars to participate in the peer review process.

Tracking (10%)

  • Assist the Editor-in-Chief in managing and tracking manuscript submissions through peer review, to ensure they move efficiently through the system.

Operations (5%)

  • Assist the Editor-in-Chief in maintaining efficient editorial operations and reasonable review timelines.

Promotion (5%)

  • Assist with social media postings related to special issues, special collections, and featured articles.
Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • PhD or PhD Candidate in a social science discipline (e.g., Social Work, Sociology, Public Health, Public Policy, etc) with a research focus on family violence (i.e., intimate partner violence, child maltreatment, elder abuse).
  • Demonstrated record of scientific publication.
  • Proficiency with topic and methodological content and identifying scholars as matches for potential reviewers.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills are necessary to handle multiple tasks and keep up with workflow.
  • Demonstrated commitment to advocating for an inclusive environment for all backgrounds and identities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated record of peer review experience.

Department Overview

Founded in 1917 on its Dakota homeland, the School of Social Work at the University of Minnesota - Twin Cities is part of a public, research-intensive university and one of seven administrative units in the College of Education and Human Development (CEHD). The School offers several graduate and undergraduate educational programs including: a PhD in Social Work; a Master of Social Work; a Master of Education in Youth Development Leadership; a Bachelor of Science in Youth Studies, and undergraduate minors in Family Violence Prevention, Social Justice, and Youth Studies. Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: The hourly rate for this position is $19.23 per hour. Final offers are dependent on the candidate's experience, skills, and internal equity within the department.

Time Appointment: 25%
