Job Title:Paralegal Associate III



Position Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Litigation Paralegal to manage the full litigation lifecycle including high-value and complex claims. This role requires advanced knowledge of Pennsylvania civil procedure, particularly in Allegheny and Beaver Counties, and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision. The ideal candidate will be a proactive contributor to litigation strategy, case management, and enforcement actions, while serving as a liaison between internal teams, outside counsel, and court systems.



Location: Hybrid (see below), downtown Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania



Job Duties and Responsibilities:



  • Case Evaluation & Intake




    • Review incoming claims files to assess eligibility for litigation and identify disqualifying factors.
    • Conduct preliminary legal research and summarize findings for attorneys and claims teams.


  • Pre-Litigation Communication

    • Draft and send legal demand letters to initiate final recovery efforts.
    • Handle inbound communications and negotiate payment arrangements when applicable.


  • Litigation Preparation & Filing

    • Prepare case documentation and coordinate complaint drafting and filing.
    • Manage service of process across jurisdictions and monitor service status.


  • Deadline & Calendar Management

    • Track statutory response periods and follow up with appropriate legal notices.
    • Maintain litigation calendars and ensure timely follow-through on procedural steps.


  • Judgment & Enforcement

    • Monitor default judgment status and report outcomes to internal stakeholders.
    • Initiate enforcement actions, including license suspension filings and disclosure tracking.


  • Hearing Support & Coordination

    • Prepare and submit required disclosures.
    • Track hearing dates and assist with pre-hearing preparation.


  • Interdepartmental Collaboration

    • Liaise with claims specialists, outside counsel, and law enforcement agencies.
    • Support litigation counsel with case summaries and procedural updates.




  • Administrative Duties - Perform other administrative duties as may be required (expense reporting, organize case files, manage meeting logistics, etc.).



Additional Responsibilities:



  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned
  • Storm role duties as assigned



Education and Experience Required:



  • Bachelor's Degree in related field with emphasis in legal studies, or
  • Paralegal certification with at least four years related experience working as litigation paralegal at a law firm or in-house legal department.


  • 3+ years of relevant experience required



Skills/Abilities:



  • Advanced knowledge of Pennsylvania civil procedure and local court rules.
  • Familiarity with Allegheny and Beaver County filing procedures.
  • Proficient in e-filing systems and legal research tools.
  • Strong drafting, analytical, and organizational skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
  • High attention to detail and deadline-driven mindset.
  • Ability to manage multiple cases with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to professionally interact with employees and external stakeholders.
  • Skilled in mediation and trial preparation.



Scope

Primary focus is on daily deliverables, outputs and reporting. Typically, accountable for managing one's own time and workflow. Responsible for using prescribed guidelines to analyze situations and solve problems. Work activities are typically moderate to complex in nature requiring the incumbent to draw on previous knowledge to perform role. Continues to build knowledge base but has a solid foundation to act independently the majority of the time. Still draws on experts and managers when needed but less frequently.



Decision Impact

The problems and issues faced are vague. Incumbent draws on past experience on a regular basis. Accountable for direct level of reasoning and decision making.



Hybrid Work

Position follows our hybrid work model, with a minimum of two days working in the office and the remaining days working remotely. Reporting location and frequency may be subject to change based on job role and department needs.



Storm Roles

All Non-Union Employees will serve in storm roles as appropriate to their role and skillset. Utilize data to make business decisions as appropriate for the position, support data stewardship activities and partner with IT on underlying data needs.
