Overview

This position is responsible for coordinating and supporting credentialing and privileging for the medical staff and advanced practice providers in compliance with applicable regulatory, accreditation, and organization standards (e.g., DNV, CMS, Medical Staff Bylaws). This role also provides support to the organized Medical Staff functions including, Medical Executive Committee, governance and department and/or section meetings ensuring accurate documentation, timely communication, and consistent follow-through. Responsible for Medical Staff Bylaws and policy revisions, and process improvement. Represents UPH-Des Moines and actively participates in UnityPoint Health System credentialing committees and activities.

Responsibilities
  • Processes requests in reference to practitioner credentialing.
  • Processes applications of practitioners requesting Medical Staff appointment in accordance with Medical Staff bylaws, DNV and CMS standards.
  • Responsible for primary source verification of new physician and/or Advanced Practice Provider applications to associate with Critical Access Hospitals working closely with System Strategy or other departments for implementation and maintenance.
  • Manage the credentialing delegated agreements for Critical Access Hospitals and for any telemedicine contracted providers for Proxy Credentialing.
  • May process requests for expedited clinical privileges/activities for new applicants and other temporary privileges as well as requests for increases in privileges, in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Coordinates the new provider onboarding for new practitioners.
  • Maintains positive practitioner and staff relationships.
  • Maintain confidentiality of medical staff activities as they related to peer review, quality improvements, medico-legal issues, license, malpractice insurance, and delineation of privileges, confidential hearing records and reappointment.

Qualifications

Education: HS diploma or equivalent required

Experience: Minimum of 2 years experience in a Medical Staff office or credentialing.
