What to Expect
Tesla's Cathode Advanced Manufacturing team is seeking an Electrochemistry Engineer to develop and implement novel electrochemical testing and analytical methods for the evaluation of cathode materials. As an Electrochemistry Engineer, you will play a key role in the development and scale-up of high-performance cathode materials for next-generation battery electric vehicles. Your expertise in electrochemistry will help us to better understand the behavior of our cathode materials, identify areas for improvement, and optimize our processes.
What You'll Do
- Electrochemical Testing: Design, develop, and implement novel electrochemical testing methods to evaluate the performance and properties of cathode materials, including but not limited to: Cyclic Voltammetry (CV), Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS), and Galvanostatic Intermittent Titration Technique (GITT)
- Data Analysis: Analyze and interpret electrochemical data to identify trends, correlations, and insights that can inform material development and process optimization
Test Method Development: Develop and validate new electrochemical test methods to support the evaluation of cathode materials, including the development of new test protocols, experimental designs, and data analysis techniques Technical Support: Provide technical support and guidance to cross-functional teams, including material scientists, process engineers, and manufacturing teams, on electrochemical testing and analysis Statistical Analysis: Apply statistical techniques and machine learning algorithms to identify trends, correlations, and patterns in electrochemical data, and develop predictive models to inform material development and process optimization Data Processing and Management: Design, develop, and maintain databases and data systems to manage and analyze large datasets related to cathode material testing and development Process Optimization: Collaborate with process engineers to optimize cathode material synthesis and manufacturing processes based on electrochemical testing and analysis results Root Cause Analysis: Conduct root cause analysis of electrochemical test results to identify the underlying mechanisms and factors that influence cathode material performance Cell Stack Design and Testing: Design, build, and test battery cells for different use cases with various cathode materials and electrolytes to evaluate their performance and identify areas for improvement, such as: fast charge, long life, high-energy density, or other specialized applications Material Characterization: Collaborate with material scientists and engineers to characterize the physical and chemical properties of cathode materials, including morphology, structure, and composition
