Mechanics Bank is currently searching for a Director of Commercial Loan Underwriting to join our team in Roseville, California. Responsible for leadership and coordination of staff to consistently underwrite and analyze loan requests across all teams and in accordance with Bank and Department policies and procedures. Active involvement in deal structure / concept memo review and preflight process for larger/more complex transactions, to assess early viability of requests. Responsible for quality control across underwriting team, which may include reviewing larger transactions. Train staff on credit risk analysis, to ensure risks are appropriately addressed and consistent standards and practices are applied. Drive oversight of portfolio credit quality and overall regional portfolio management. Primarily responsible for interaction with internal loan review.

What you will be doing:

  • Oversees overall underwriting and workflow management, including attending pipeline meetings and deals discussions when appropriate and managing to consistent underwriting standards.

  • Oversees Portfolio Management quality within designated regions to ensure timely collection, and testing of financials from borrowers, site visits, covenant testing and other tickler follow up including the review of waivers or forbearance requests and letters prior to issuance.

  • Oversees coordination and preparation of watch list credit comments & problem loan reports for assigned region.

  • Ensure adherence to regulatory requirements; adhere to bank policies and procedures.

  • Manage, develop and coach team members to ensure understanding of bank lending and underwriting policies and processes.

Who you are:

  • Bachelors degree preferred. Additional experience may be considered in lieu of degree.

  • Required: Minimum of 10 years of experience in all areas/types of Commercial/Business lending, underwriting and portfolio management including C&I, SBA, and Investor Real Estate.

  • 5 years of management/leadership experience is preferred.

  • Travel required: 20-30%

  • Ability to logically review loan presentations for accuracy and thorough understanding of the credit and its associated risks and mitigants.

  • Thorough knowledge of standard loan facility structures used to address various borrowing purposes and repayment sources.

  • Thorough understanding of accounting principles and practices, economics and business acumen.

  • Must possess excellent communication skills and customer service skills with a high level of professionalism, whether on the phone, in person, or in writing.

  • Demonstrated ability to problem solve and work in an organized manner on multiple projects.

Salary: $150,000 - $210,000 annually

AIP/Bonus: up to 25%

Final compensation package will be determined by the work experience, education, and/or skill level of the applicant along with internal equity and alignment with geographic market data.
