Overview

The Education Programs Coordinator provides leadership, support and oversight on policy and program development, monitoring, continuous improvement, and field support related to the content areas covered in the Humanities field (i.e., ELA/Literacy, Social Studies, Arts).



This role involves managing and supervising multiple staff members across divisions to ensure provision of support in program leadership, effective planning, coordination, administration, design and development, advisory work, policy development, policy analysis, reporting and recommendations. The scope of the role also includes leadership in programmatic (and potentially financial) oversight of the program(s). Incumbents supervise and/or lead teams in a variety of systems and functions related to supporting curriculum and instruction in the Humanities field. Ideal candidates would also have experience teaching/leading in the field of English Language Arts/Literacy and have experience in the Science of Reading, and direct and explicit, evidence-based literacy instructional practices. Experience in social studies education is also preferred. Work includes considerable interaction with a variety of partners & stakeholders.



Job Duties include:



  • Oversees the coordination and leadership for one or more education programs
  • Leads major projects within and across teams and divisions
  • Leads teams to ensure coordination, management and productivity of one or more programs and related project activities and resources
  • Designs and creates systems to address specific educational and program goals.
  • Formulates educational organizational and operational plans, grants, contracts or procedures for achieving program goals
  • Plan, develop, manage and advise on policy and practices within program areas
  • Promotes partnerships with and provide support to groups/organizations/stakeholders
  • Serves on committees, boards or councils.
  • Lead and oversee the technical assistance, coaching, training, and support to schools, community groups and other organizations.
  • Conducts research, analyzes data and develops knowledge in area of expertise
  • Provides oversight on team presentations to boards/organizations/legislative testimony etc.
  • Approves data collection, reports, etc. for compliance related items
  • Monitors the work of the group for all of the above to ensure that all requirements and standards are met
  • Works with management to insure the coordination of the group activities with the goals and objectives of the AOE
  • Represent team/division at scheduled meetings
  • Lead team involvement in AOE workgroup projects/assignments related to state and federal priorities

Environmental Factors

Work is generally performed in a standard office setting, but significant travel may be anticipated for which private means of transportation must be available. Some work outside of normal work schedule may be required. There may be considerable interaction with a variety of publics and strong differences of opinion may be encountered.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in education, public administration, or related field AND five (5) years or more at a professional level education, program development, or leadership role in a public or private educational institution.
OR
Three (3) years or more as an Education Programs Coordinator I with the State of Vermont.

Preferred Qualifications

Master's degree.



Considerable knowledge of one or more of the educational or technical specialties of Humanities program content areas.
Considerable knowledge of the field of education in general and awareness of developments and programs in other jurisdictions.
Considerable knowledge and skill in planning, developing, and coordinating programs and initiatives.
Considerable knowledge in related laws, rules, regulations.
Strong facilitation and collaboration skills, especially with external stakeholders in school systems
Ability to prepare reports of considerable complexity.
Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
Ability to provide team leadership, support, and oversight for division core work programs and processes, and/or other cross division programs.
Ability to supervise individuals within the team and ensure work is coordinated.
Expertise in related laws, rules, regulations in the related program(s) areas.
