BID/JOB ANNOUNCEMENT SENIOR ZONING PLAN EXAMINER DEPARTMENT OF PLANNING & DEVELOPMENT Bureau of Zoning Number of Positions: 3 (additional vacancies possible pending budget approval) Starting Salary: $66,612.00 New hires are paid the starting rate. This position is open to the public and all current City employees covered under the City's collective bargaining agreement with AMERICAN FEDERATION OF STATE, COUNTY, AND MUNICIPAL EMPLOYEES (AFSCME) - BARGAINING UNITS 1, 3, 4 & 5. Only employees in City job titles in this bargaining unit are eligible to bid. BID INSTRUCTIONS: To bid on this position, APPLY ON THE BID SITE and: 1. Select your correct bargaining unit, upload your resume, and complete the application FAILURE TO FOLLOW THESE INSTRUCTIONS WILL RESULT IN A REJECTED BID APPLICATION Under supervision, reviews electronically submitted building permit applications to ensure compliance with the purpose and standards of the Chicago Zoning Ordinance, and performs related duties as required. ESSENTIAL DUTIES * Reviews building permit applications, architectural drawings, and construction plans of moderate complexity, and related documents to determine if intended property and land use is in compliance with designated zoning classifications * Checks zoning maps and ordinance to determine the appropriate classification and district of plans under review * Checks building size, occupancy, and off-street parking plans for zoning code compliance * Reviews sign permits for compliance with sign and billboard regulations * Forwards applications to other City departments to review for compliance with planned development projects or special certification or licensing requirements * Reviews court orders and documents granting variations and explaining to customers why their application was denied * Approves applications found to be in compliance with the zoning ordinance * Calculates fees for the plan review * Interprets the zoning ordinance to applicants and the general public * Maintains records of applications reviewed and prepares related reports * Reviews applications for driveways and occupancy placards Additional duties may be required for this position
