Senior Director of Security

Pay: The anticipated salary range for this position is $130,000-$150,000 per year depending on experience and qualifications. Compensation is determined based on a variety of factors, including relevant work experience, the skills required for the role, internal equity, market competitiveness, and budget considerations. Job Summary:

Under the direct supervision of the Chief Operating Officer, the Senior Director of Security is charged with overseeing the organization's daily security operations. This includes managing both internal security personnel and contracted security professionals on behalf of the organization. This role requires a high level of technical expertise, as well as strong management and communication skills. The Senior Director of Security collaborates both internally and externally, working with confidentiality to ensure the security of the organization and to mitigate risks. These efforts encompass technical, emotional, and cyber intelligence surveillance.

The Senior Director of Security is responsible for proactively engaging with, and developing relationships across, various levels of law enforcement and surveillance entities, both within the affiliate and, as needed, beyond. This engagement is essential to executing the organization's broader, strategic security vision. The Senior Director of Security is an advocate in implementing our mission of "Advancing and protecting sexual and reproductive healthcare for all." They may perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:



  • Bachelor's degree or relevant experience in relevant fields such as criminal justice, security management, computer science, or information technology.
  • 5 to 10 years of experience in security management, law enforcement, military service, or a related field, with a proven track record in a leadership role or progressive advancement.
  • Experience establishing relationships and working with multiple departments, stakeholders, and agencies.
  • Professional certifications are highly desirable and can include, but is not limited to:

    • Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP)
    • Certified Information Security Manager (CISM)
    • Certified Protection Professional (CPP)





Your Day-to-Day Responsibilities:



  • Security operations management: Oversees all operational security systems and events, including technical surveillance (CCTV), weapons detection, access control, fire alarm monitoring, burglar alarm monitoring, and panic buttons.
  • Risk assessment and mitigation: Conducts regular risk assessments and vulnerability testing to identify and address potential vulnerabilities. Implements and manages security protocols to mitigate identified risks, both at onsite locations and at offsite events/locations.
  • Incident response: Lead and coordinate the response to Tier 1 and Tier 2 security events and incidents, including containment, eradication, and recovery measures. This includes managing forensics and malware analysis during a cyberattack and proactive cyber security in partnership with the information systems team.
  • Policy and procedure implementation: Assists in developing and implementing comprehensive security policies, procedures, and guidelines that align with corporate and regulatory requirements.
  • Team leadership and development: Manage and supervise a team of security analysts and officers that may be contracted. Responsibilities include coordinating the contracting/hiring, training, scheduling, performance evaluation, and professional development.
  • Interdepartmental collaboration: Work with other departments, such as IT, legal/compliance, facilities, and human resources, to ensure security measures are integrated into the company's operations and to assist with investigations.
  • Reporting: Create and present reports on security threats, incidents, vulnerabilities, and overall security posture to senior leadership as designated on a real time basis with follow up and ongoing monitoring to create a culture of safety and mitigate risks.
  • Works with the Security Program Manager to develop and implement security standards and protocols to ensure ongoing and high-level security at multiple sites in five states, including employee and asst protection, prevention of workplace violence, access control systems, and other related areas.
  • Ensures adequate anticipation of response to activities of anti-Planned Parenthood extremists; ensures excellent incident response planning and investigation
  • With the assistance of the Security Team and applicable resources, conducts all security training, orientation, and drills and conducts safety and security audits at all locations
  • Collaboratively determines and communicates security policies and procedures by studying organization operations, completing threat assessments, establishing internal controls, conducting inspections, preparing and updating a security manual and staff and volunteer security training information
  • Oversee the management of contracts, supervision and relationships with contracted security vendors. With the Security Program manager, coordinates and supervises security for affiliate special events
  • Collaboratively participates in the emergency preparedness training and planning.
  • Initiates and maintains law enforcement liaisons with federal, state, and local enforcement agencies for all PPNCS locations. Serves as organizational contact with PPFA Global Safety and Security.
  • Partners with Sr. Director of Information Systems and BRIDGE in determining and implementing IT Security policies and procedures.
  • Partners with IT vendors to provide resources and facility/security support on projects when requested.
  • Assists in other duties and special projects as assigned.
