Information Technology Development Intern

This is for a Summer 2026 Internship located at our facility in Sterling Heights, Michigan

The General Dynamics Land Systems Internship Program provides an opportunity for students looking to start or continue the transition from academia into industry. Our internship assignments provide compensation based on area of study and class standing, and have the students embedded in key functional areas of our business, getting real-world experience and mentorship from seasoned professionals.

Primary Function
The Development Intern assists in all aspects of the development process and manages the execution of the certain tasks in the development of a Project as determined by the Development team. The scope of responsibilities include assisting or managing those elements of the development process assigned to the Development Intern which may include due diligence, feasibility, programming, and design. The Development Intern will typically work on multiple projects simultaneously. Depending on the size and nature of a Project the Development Intern will work with a Project Executive, Development Manager and/or Development Associate. The Development Intern must be able to work efficiently in a fastpaced, multi-task environment with competing priorities and multiple project relationships.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Attend design/coordination meetings during pre-development
  • Attend/assist operations meetings during construction/delivery period; follow up with appropriate parties as needed with issues that arise
  • Comprehensive tracking of project data as needed for reporting
  • Other related tasks necessary to successful project development
  • Assist in managing the flow of paperwork among Project Managers and customers, clients, and vendors
  • Special projects as assigned

Qualifications
  • Must be pursuing a bachelor's degree in either Computer Science or related other technical degrees will be considered with relevant experience from an accredited 4-year university or college.
  • Specialized computer skills including Java, JavaScript, Python, VB, TypeScript, C#, Oracle, SQL and/or other development languages
  • General relevant computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Project
  • Attained Junior status based on university/college's class standing requirements at the start of the internship preferred.
  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • Preferred - GPA of 3.0 or higher
  • This position may require eligibility to obtain a US security clearance. (Non-US Citizens may not be eligible to obtain a security clearance) No sponsorship offered
  • Must successfully pass standard pre-employment screens and must provide an official college or university transcript from their school before their first day of employment.
  • May need to meet ASR requirements to work in/on various vehicles, if needed.
  • Must be able to complete a 3 month internship from May-Aug 2026

  • Articulate communication - verbal, pictorial, numerical - as relevant to the development process
  • Excellent telephone etiquette, communication and, organizational skills, as well as excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • High level of organization with customer information
  • Desire to learn and professionally grow
  • A willingness and flexibility to do "whatever it takes" to learn the business; a strong team player
