The Surgical Technician lead at BMC Brighton is a resource to OR support staff and may assist with direct or indirect OR activities. The Lead Surgical technician must be able to perform skills to the standards of care that AST defines as quality-of-care accuracy and efficiency. The Lead role may rotate to areas other specialty areas. The Lead surgical technician will assume responsibility and accountability for the preparation of the service line OR rooms for surgery and maintains all equipment in proper working order, tracks repairs, and ensures availability.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES / DUTIES:


  • Accountable for actively planning, participating and establishing activities that promote competency bases practice in a variety of perioperative situations.
  • Provide and in-service activities.
  • Accountable for maintenance of clinical competencies in accordance with written unit and organizational policy and procedure.
  • Maintain confidentiality and security for all hospital related and patient related information.
  • Accountable for providing safe, cost-effective, quality patient care within the perioperative setting
  • Respond productively in a variety of emergency situations providing direct and/or indirect patient care activities.
  • Maintain knowledge skills related to unit or organizational safety, risk management, and Standard Precaution guidelines.
  • Provide a safe environment for patients and health team members in accordance with unit-based and organizational policies and procedures.

Required Education:

The surgical technician successfully completes an approved surgical technician program or equivalent and is certified

Required Experience:

Three to five years of recent Surgical Technician experience in relevant service line.

Required Certification/Licensure:

NBSTSA required
