The UMKC School of Humanities and Social Sciences (SHSS) is comprised of ten academic departments and multiple interdisciplinary programs. Our 29 majors and 27 minors support students in developing the most sought-after career skills - excellent communication, analysis, collaboration, and creative problem-solving. This job reports to the Manager of Recruitment and Outreach for the School of Humanities and Social Sciences.

Job Description

This position is responsible for planning, coordinating, and implementing undergraduate freshmen recruitment activities for the School of Humanities and Social Sciences to meet enrollment goals and objectives, develop programs and initiatives to support the recruitment of undergraduate students to UMKC, and support the Office of Admissions and School of Humanities and Social Sciences in meeting their goals.

This position will be responsible for promoting the School of Humanities and Social Sciences degree options in a positive and effective manner, representing the School to prospective students during their on-campus visit experience, and implementing recruitment efforts in collaboration with academic departments in the School.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain a strong knowledge of UMKC's programs, policies, awards, values, and distinctions, specifically for the School of Humanities and Social Sciences.
  • Develop and implement recruitment strategies, plans, and goals for the School of Humanities and Social Sciences based on university data, trends, best practices, and market research with the unit and the Office of Admissions.
  • Engage in on-campus activities designed to promote the UMKC School of Humanities and Social Science to prospective students and their families including giving presentations during the student's on-campus visit experience scheduled through the Office of Admissions.
  • Schedule, coordinate and meet 1:1 with prospective students on campus or virtually, involving faculty and on-campus resources as necessary.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with Humanities and Social Sciences faculty and staff, academic unit partners and on-campus resources.
  • Respond to prospective student inquiries through email, phone, or in-person communications, including providing information on transferability of previously earned college credit, housing information, educational fees, housing options, financial aid, deadlines, etc.
  • Create and maintain positive and professional relationships with high school teachers, community organizations, etc. to facilitate referral of high school students to UMKC as well as facilitating on and off-campus promotional opportunities such as classroom visits and appearances by UMKC faculty to area high schools.
  • Communicate information about UMKC's requirements for admission, including requirements for specific academic programs in the School of Humanities and Social Sciences. This also includes admissions decisions, committing to UMKC, and orientation.
  • Work with the Office of Admissions, Marketing and Communications, and the CRM team to develop publications, communication campaigns, mailings, etc. for the School that align with admissions branding and messaging.
  • Demonstrate excellent written and verbal/presentation skills, and present information at both on-campus and off-campus events.
  • Maintain accurate reports related to school visits and other recruitment events, inquiry, applicant, and enrolled data, and communication efforts.
  • Function with a high level of autonomy, including setting accountability goals, while keeping appropriate stakeholders informed of progress to goals.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Shift

Typical office hours are Monday-Friday, 8:00 am - 5:00 pm. This position requires availability for occasional evening and weekend work.

Minimum Qualifications

A Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 1 year of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Six months to one-year experience in Admissions or Higher Education is preferred.
  • Ability to travel locally as needed to fulfill job responsibilities within the Kansas City Metropolitan Region within the five counties: Jackson, Clay, and Platte in Missouri, and Wyandotte and Johnson in Kansas.
  • Experience with student recruitment and admissions practices, organizing events and programs, managing and interpreting data, strategic planning and data-informed decision making, and working independently are preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work with a diverse set of colleagues.
  • Dynamic presentation skills and excellent communication skills.
  • Evidence of ability to utilize data to prioritize strategies.
  • Superior understanding of admissions communication flow.
  • Familiarity of use of CRM systems.
  • Ability to work as part of a team.
Anticipated Hiring Range

$18.87 - $25.96 per hour commensurate on education, experience, and internal equity.
