POSITION SUMMARY:

The Audiology Extern receives training on assessments, diagnosis, evaluation, and habilitation related to patient management, under supervision of a clinical Audiologist. The Audiology Extern has completed a Masters/Equivalent education and is prepared to work in the clinical setting for a period of one year under the direction of a certified (ASHA) audiologist while pursuing a doctorate. Clinical setting is a fast paced, diverse, health safety net hospital with diverse learning opportunities spanning the Audiology scope of practice.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION:

Master's degree in Audiology or 3 years completion/2 years in an accelerated program of accredited academic AuD coursework in Audiology; equivalent of Master's Degree in Audiology Eligibility for MA Audiology license

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED:

2 Letters of Recommendation from clinical preceptors and/or clinical professors. Personal Statement.

EXPERIENCE:

2 years completion of a Doctorate of Audiology program (Accelerated Program or 3 years completion in a non-accelerated program

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:


  • Excellent interpersonal skills to instill confidence and to advocate for patients and their family
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with demonstrated commitment and enthusiasm towards learning
  • An organized work style and ability to keep clear written documentation
  • Basic computer proficiency inclusive of ability to access, enter, and interpret computerized data/information

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES:


  • Perform comprehensive audiologic evaluations for pediatric (8 month-18 years) and adult patients.
  • Perform diverse vestibular testing (VNG, VEMP, Ecog, Rotary Chair, vHIT, & Canalith Repositioning)
  • Perform Auditory Brainstem Response testing on infants (birth-6 months) Evaluate patients, fit, and troubleshoot hearing aids (pediatric/adult) Evaluate, program, and troubleshoot implantable devices (cochlear implant/osseointegrated devices)
  • Collaborate on interdisciplinary team in a busy ENT clinic (inpatients, sedated procedures, etc.) Facilitates clinic efficiency (hearing aid dispensary, manufacturer communication, etc.)
