Under the supervision of the Nurse Manager and under the direction of the Registered Nurse, performs specific duties that support patient care. These duties include cast application,
technical procedures, direct and indirect patient care activities that are essential to providing comprehensive care to patients and contribute to the efficient operation of the clinic.
Patient and family centered care (PFCC) at YNHH is demonstrated by working with patients and their families based on the 4 principles of PFCC: participation, dignity, and respect, information'
sharing, and collagoration. This includes providing sservice excellence be creating a great "First Impression" be demonstrating exemplary customer service skills for all customer groups including
patients, families/ friends, physicians, staff and suppport department personnel.

Responsibilities

  • 1. Under the direction of the Registered Nurse provides patient care.
    • 1.1 Greets and escorts patients to the exam room.
  • 2. Under the direction of the physician and/or the registered nurse, performs technical procedures which contribute to safe patient care.
    • 2.1 Removes casts and performs all casting procedures.
  • 3. Performs technical duties which contribute to safe patient care.
    • 3.1 Fabricates and fits braces, splints acccording to protocol and physician order.
  • 4. Participates in educational activities that contribute to patient care, staff education and self development.
    • 4.1 Completes all mandatory training within review year.
  • 5. Effectively contribute to the operational support of the clinic.
    • 5.1 Report faulty equipment and environmental problems to the Nurse Manager or designee.

Qualifications

EDUCATION

High school diploma or GED; Orthopaedic or Medical Assistant certification preferred

EXPERIENCE

Two (2) years of Orthopaedic and / or Ambulatory experience

LICENSURE

Orthopaedic Technician Certification preferable

SPECIAL SKILLS

Must have a knowledge of anatomy and skill in cast application

PHYSICAL DEMAND

Requires good manual dexterity; ability to use power equipment; assist with lifting patients, stand or walk most of work day and use good body mechanics.
