Job Summary
The Respiratory Therapy New Grad Residency Program is designed for newly graduated Respiratory Care Practitioners who have completed an accredited school of Respiratory Care program, on or after January 2025. The program start date is October 13th, 2025. Please note, this is a 9-month full-time program with limited scheduling accommodations. Summary of job responsibilities:
- Respiratory Care Practitioners are responsible for the assessment of respiratory patients, with acute and chronic illnesses, to ensure delivery of clinically appropriate respiratory care procedures as prescribed by the medical staff for neonate, pediatric, adolescent and adult patients.
- This position requires the flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Medical Center locations.
Other Important Information
- Candidates selected for the Respiratory Therapy New Grad Residency Program must have less than six months of paid RT employment experience at the time of the program start date.
- Candidates must have completed their program no earlier than January 2025.
- Must have a current CA RCP license
- If selected for the program, you will be asked to commit to at least two years of full-time employment after the completion of training.
- Application deadline is September 4th at 11:59 PM PDT.
- Program starts on Monday, October 13th, 2025.
- Training program includes both day and night shift experience.
- At end of training program, the assigned shift will be determined following AFSCME Collective Bargaining Agreement.
The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy. All RT hires (job code 9049) will start at an hourly rate of $62.61. Department Description The Respiratory Care Services department is dedicated to delivering exceptional respiratory care to every patient, prioritizing their needs while treating each individual with respect, dignity, and compassion. We proudly serve patients across all UCSF Health campuses-including Parnassus, Mt. Zion, and Mission Bay-providing care to individuals of all ages, from newborns to adults.

Required Qualifications
- Less than six (6) months of paid RCP experience by October 2025
- Graduated on/after January 2025
- Willing to commit to at least two years of full-time employment after the completion of training
- Flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Medical Center locations

License/Certification
- Valid and Current California Respiratory Care Board Respiratory Care Practitioner License
- Current Registered Respiratory Therapy (RRT) Certificate from NBRC
- Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (HCP) certification
