JOB TITLE: Cloud Architect
AGENCY SUPPORTED:
Department of Homeland Security (DHS) - USCIS OIT Architecture Engineering Support (AES2)
LOCATION: Fully Remote
POSITION TYPE: Full-time
CLEARANCE REQUIREMENT: Must be able to obtain DHS Suitability security clearance, which typically requires 2-4 weeks for processing and must be completed prior to the start date.

The project supports USCIS's Office of Information Technology by delivering enterprise IT architecture, engineering, and solution development services. The team partners across OIT to design, implement, and optimize leading-edge technologies-including cloud, network, Zero Trust architecture, automation, and AI/ML-using agile and DevOps practices. The work enables USCIS to modernize IT systems, enhance mission delivery, and support major enterprise initiatives such as digitization, cloud migration, and software-defined networking.

The Cloud Architect will be responsible for designing and implementing enterprise cloud solutions across AWS, Azure, and GCP environments. This role requires deep expertise in cloud architecture, cloud migration, hybrid strategies, security, and performance optimization. The architect will guide enterprise cloud strategy, define technical standards, and collaborate with stakeholders to integrate scalable, secure, and cost-effective cloud solutions into mission-critical systems.



Responsibilities

    Architect and design secure, scalable cloud solutions across AWS, Azure, and GCP.
  • Develop and implement cloud migration strategies for enterprise workloads.
  • Design hybrid and multi-cloud architectures integrating on-premises and cloud-native services.
  • Optimize cloud environments for performance, scalability, security, and cost efficiency.
  • Implement and manage cloud-native services, serverless computing, and DevOps integration.
  • Define cloud architecture standards, policies, and best practices for enterprise-wide use.
  • Collaborate with OIT stakeholders, engineering teams, and leadership to align solutions with mission and enterprise objectives.
  • Provide architectural oversight and guidance throughout design, deployment, and transition of cloud solutions.
  • Contribute to ongoing modernization initiatives, including multi-cloud optimization and enterprise cost management.


Qualifications

REQUIRED:

  • 7-10+ years of experience in cloud architecture/design.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or related field strongly preferred; Advanced degree preferred.
  • Proven expertise in:
    • Cloud architecture and design (AWS, Azure, GCP)
    • Cloud migration and hybrid/multi-cloud strategy
    • Cloud-native services and security best practices
    • Performance and scalability optimization
  • Strong leadership and communication skills, with experience influencing enterprise-level technology decisions.
  • Ability to design solutions that balance innovation, performance, scalability, security, and cost efficiency.
  • Must be eligible to obtain DHS Suitability clearance.

DESIRED:

  • Experience with cloud cost management tools and practices.
  • Experience with serverless computing.
  • Familiarity with DevOps tools and automation in cloud environments.

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS: This position is fully remote. Candidates must have a dedicated workspace, reliable internet connectivity, and the ability to participate in virtual meetings and collaborate effectively with distributed teams.
