The Opportunity

TC Energy has an exciting career opportunity as a Non-destructive Evaluation (NDE) Technologist on the Engineering Support team within the US Natural Gas Business Unit. In this role you would work within a team of Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) in the areas of welding, materials, coatings and NDE to contribute to the company's position as a world-class leader in the design, construction and operation of pipeline and energy facilities.

Reporting to the Manager of Welding and NDE, you will be responsible for execution on NDE Standards and Specifications applicable to multiple methods and disciplines, implementing specification requirements, enforcing engineering and quality management systems through pre-qualification, process and document reviews on each project working to ensure project completion within the schedule. What you'll do

  • Provide NDE support and oversight for construction execution on Compression projects, pipelines, fabrication, facilities, and maintenance projects within Safety and Technical Services - Pipeline Integrity Engineering Services
  • Deliver day to day technical support in all areas and methods in the field of NDE for the US Natural Gas Business Unit
  • Provide upfront NDE support to projects through document reviews and pre-production meetings
  • Support RFI and NCR processes to ensure contractor, supplier and manufacturers compliance with TC Energy requirements
  • Provide audit support for fabrication, facilities and mainline pipeline projects flagging re-inspections and incorrect weld disposition ensuring the NDE vendors work is aligned with Codes/Specifications
  • Troubleshoots on NDE issues related to new construction for Compression projects, pipelines, fabrication, facilities and maintenance projects and collaborates with internal TC Energy team members, NDE contractors, suppliers and fabricators to find practical solutions to technical challenges and identifies opportunities to improve technical requirements and processes
  • Works with NDE vendors to bring new technologies to TCE (Phased Array/Positive Material Identification - LIBS/Digital RT applications)
  • Collaborate with supply chain, project, and external vendors/contractors to maintain project schedule and qualify new NDE vendors where needed
  • Review of suppliers and their NDT procedures utilized on projects
  • Guide and provide technical expertise and information in response to Regulatory requests

Minimum Qualifications

  • Graduation from a 2- or 3-year technical school program or degree in NDE Engineering
  • 15 or more years of progressive NDE field experience related to the construction and/or maintenance of gas transmission systems
  • Level 2 CGSB Certification in both Radiographic and Ultrasonic test methods with a general knowledge in other NDE methods such as magnetic particle and liquid penetrant inspections
  • Knowledge and experience in advanced ultrasonic testing methods such as Phased Array ultrasonic testing and/or automated ultrasonic testing
  • Knowledge of Regulations, Codes and applicable Standards (e.g., ASME, API) for pipeline and associated facility construction in the United States of America

Preferred Qualifications

  • Level 3 CGSB Certification either Radiographic or Ultrasonic test methods and a general knowledge in other NDE methods such as magnetic particle and liquid penetrant inspections
  • PCN Level 2 certified for phased array and Time of Flight Diffraction (ToFD)
  • Technical background in advanced ultrasonic techniques such as crack tip diffraction and Time of flight diffraction, and Ultrasonic Imaging Techniques (TFM, FMC, etc.)
  • Experience with mechanized welding systems used for mainline welding and fabrication welding
  • Experience with industry welding standards (i.e., ASME IX, API 1104, CSA Z662) and ECA applications
  • Experience with in-service welding procedures and knowledge of non-destructive examination techniques and their applications
