Job Summary
The Finance Analyst 2 provides intermediate-level financial analysis and support within the Department of Surgery. This position is primarily responsible for managing and analyzing accounts receivable processes and supporting financial reporting functions to ensure accuracy, compliance, and timely decision-making. This position requires a professional who applies acquired job skills, policies, and procedures to perform a wide range of administrative support functions including complex purchasing administration, accounts receivable and payable administration, payroll reconciliation, staff and faculty payroll processing, transaction processing, and department travel and expense administration. The incumbent will be expected to exercise judgement and follow administrative guidelines and procedures to complete tasks assigned and manage functions for which they are responsible. Interpreting policy and procedural guidelines is needed to ensure compliance with UC Davis and all government requirements. The individual will independently organize their work and determine priorities to accommodate deadlines provided. Responsible for the maintenance and accuracy of extensive reports and files including backup documentation for all transactions by account. Responsible to reconcile general ledgers and payroll distribution accounts, prepare purchase requisitions for central administrative accounts, and prepare and audit monthly reports to be distributed to department faculty and management.
The analyst monitors receivables activity, reconciles accounts, and assists with collections and invoice processing. In addition, they prepare standard financial reports, identify variances, and contribute to the development of dashboards and analytical tools. Working under general supervision, the Finance Analyst 2 performs a range of professional financial duties with a primary focus on accounts receivable and financial reporting. This position plays a key role in ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of financial transactions and reporting within the department. Finance Analyst 2 applies professional financial concepts and university policies to resolve moderately complex issues and support departmental financial operations.
The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, analytical, and collaborative, with experience in accounts receivable, reconciliation, and financial systems in a higher education or similarly complex environment. - High school diploma or GED or equivalent work experience or training.
- Experience working within the University of California or other large, complex public institutions.
- Experience with developing or using financial dashboards and reporting tools.
- Excellent time management and organizational skills to plan, prioritize, organize, initiate and coordinate numerous and varied administrative projects to meet department deadlines.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to present and communicate technical and non-technical information clearly, concisely, and effectively to a variety of groups or individuals.
- Proficiency in the use of spreadsheets, word-processing, database, presentation, and e-mail software skills (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint), and ability to design user friendly accounting reports.
- Proficiency in Excel and financial systems (e.g., Oracle, PeopleSoft, UCPath, or equivalent systems).
- Solid knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and University accounting policies and procedures.
- Ability to exercise judgment within defined guidelines and practices to determine appropriate actions.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality in payroll, personnel and with all financial information.
- Ability to exercise tact, diplomacy, and good judgement.
- Ability to maintain professional composure under stress is sufficient for effective performance under such pressures as heavy workload, conflicting priorities, frequent interruptions, and stringent deadlines. Must be able to rearrange priorities to meet changing needs.
- Strong initiative, self-direction, good judgement and problem-solving skills and a professional attitude to support the department's interests.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business, or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 2-4 years of experience in financial analysis or accounting, with demonstrated knowledge of accounts receivable functions.
- Strong analytical and reconciliation skills with high attention to detail.
- Proficiency in the use of UC Davis financial programs and tools (Kuali, UC Path, Tableau, etc.) for the effective performance of these job duties.
- Knowledge of UC financial policies and systems (e.g., UCPath, Cognos, Oracle).

These include bariatric surgery, burn surgery, colorectal surgery, cardiothoracic surgery, gastrointestinal surgery, hepatobiliary surgery, endocrine surgery, pediatric surgery, plastic surgery, transplant surgery, trauma, acute care and surgical critical care surgery, vascular surgery, and oncologic surgery. The Department's extensive surgical expertise, in combination with ongoing teaching and research activities, provide ample resources and advanced surgical techniques for patient care.
