What You Will Do: As a Distribution Person, you will play an essential role within our Soldotna Field Construction department, reporting to the Southern Division Operations Supervisor. Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
- Install, repair, and maintain underground polyethylene and steel gas mains and service lines using various types of equipment.
- Lay, repair and extend underground plastic gas mains and service lines.
- Maneuver pipe sections, valves, and fittings.
- Fuse pipe and fittings.
- Cut pressurized main and service lines to allow extensions and repairs.
- Pressure test pipe for weak joints and leaks.
- Repair existing distribution system, both mains and service lines, under normal or emergency situations.
- Crew leader responsibilities (directing and coordinating team's distribution work activities).
- Complete paperwork documenting work activities (reports, distribution field orders, leak investigations, damage claims, timesheets, locate slips, third party damage claims, accident forms, construction issues, locate slips, crew leader's daily reports, meter read sheets, etc.).
- Accurately determine tools, materials, and resources required to complete a job by evaluating as-builts and/or engineering drawings.
- Work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner.
- Train temporary workers.
- May perform Distribution Helper duties.
- At the discretion of Management, may inspect contractors' work and make reports to management.
What You Will Bring:
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- One year pipe laying, fitting, and fusion experience.
- Leadership experience; ability to lead a team through a task or process.
- Must possess or obtain an OSHA First Aid/CPR card within 30 days of hire.
- Must possess current commercial Alaska driver's license (CDL) and be qualified to operate a vehicle under the conditions of the ENSTAR's Driving Policy.
- Employment is contingent on successful completion of the Operator Qualification Program.
- Ability to pass a drug, background, past employment, and driving record screening.
Preferred skills and qualifications:
- Good verbal and written communication skills; ability to effectively interact with individuals within and outside of ENSTAR.
- Intermediate knowledge of construction practices, and piped distribution systems; ability to perform related tasks.
- Must be able to work safely in general and safely operate equipment used in the installation and repair of mains and/or service lines.
- Ability to be self-directed, perform in a multi task environment, and effectively contribute individually, or as part of a team.
- Ability to learn and understand ENSTAR's Standard Operating Procedures, construction practices, and facility operations.
