POSITION SUMMARY
Identifies, researches, and develops future renewable and emerging technology projects and programs including but not limited to, electric vehicles, energy storage, connected/smart homes, beneficial electrification, and distributed energy resources. Works closely with the Member Manager’s Emerging Technology Committee and other internal and external groups to develop and execute strategy related to emerging technologies and potential impacts to member-consumers, the utility business model, and grid and engineering infrastructure decisions and investments. Supports Members and internal stakeholders by serving as a central source of coordination for emerging technologies and possible applications, opportunities and/or risks within the overall Hoosier Energy system. Develops pilots, policies, and programs to better serve and engage member-consumers and communicates across all levels to educate, update, and support employees at Hoosier Energy and the member co-ops as well as at all member-consumer levels (residential, commercial, industrial, etc.). Maintains a strategic vision leveraging emerging technology, resources and policies which continually places Hoosier Energy in a position to be a best-in-class power and service provider to Members and Member-Consumers.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Identifies, researches, and develops a wide variety of projects and programs involving emerging energy resources, technologies, and renewable energy, for the purpose of complying with established goals, policies, and strategic initiatives set forth by the Board and various state and federal agencies. Uses Project Management tools and practices to efficiently manage projects and programs through to completion. Develops and implements plans and budgets for assigned emerging energy projects, initiatives, pilots and programs.
- Educates, promotes, and coordinates the projects, programs, and research of the department to a wide audience including through presentations, writings, speaking engagements, and technology tours.
- Works collaboratively with and proactively informs members and internal departments of emerging technology pilots, programs, initiatives, projects and/or opportunities which may be of impact or concern.
- Analyzes, develops, and maintains accurate databases to track renewable energy generation and purchases including the trading, purchasing, or retiring of renewable energy credits (REC’s).
- Develops financial metrics and analyzes the impacts of changes and additions while maintaining and creating smart risk mitigation strategies.
- Identifies and researches industry trends and market changes, anticipating and strategizing directions for the utility to best service the members through the proposal and development of pilots, programs and initiatives.
- Manages the consumer-owned generation interconnection process and policies along with key account managers, engineering, member co-ops, and other pertinent groups and departments
- Identifies, develops and manages energy projects and programs aimed at working with commercial and industrial members as well as residential members, including renewable self-build options, REC, Hoosier Energy built or purchased projects, and general information and project assistance on electric vehicles, renewable energy, storage, and other energy technologies.
- Researches grant availability and various financing options available for renewable and emerging energy projects. Assists Members in preparing grants and advises on available options.
- Manages the Commercial and Industrial Renewable Energy Credit (REC) programs as well as performs REC trading when the market is favorable to Hoosier Energy, Members and Member Consumers without sacrificing the renewable goals established by the aforementioned entities. Management of the program includes but is not limited to establishing pricing and options for RECs available for purchase and procuring carbon calculations to support Environmental Sustainability Goals.
- As assigned, act as a Project Manager for the installation of equipment/projects, pilots, programs, grant applications, collaborations, initiatives, etc.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS
Education:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Business, Environmental Science or Policy, or related field minimum
- Master’s Degree preferred
Experience:
- 5 years prior experience in the emerging energy or related industry
- Advanced degrees or industry specific certifications can be substituted for years of experience
Skills and Abilities:
- Ability to communicate with individuals at all levels and work as part of a team
- Strong problem solving and decision-making skills to identify, anticipate and resolve problems at hand
- Ability to manage multiple projects and programs with varying scopes and timelines
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Manage and negotiate contracts by utilizing internal and external legal council
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Intermediate computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite
- Working knowledge of operations, maintenance, design and construction of renewable energy generating facilities and emerging energy resources and technology
- Ability to analyze and model financial and technical data for projects
