This role is part of Alcon's Research & Development function, a team that innovates boldly and delivers new products and services to help revolutionize the eye care industry, advance optimal patient outcomes and help people see brilliantly.

As a Director, Statistics, you'll provide statistical leadership across the facets of our development programs and products, using quantitative sciences to drive development decisions and evidence generation in support of the value, effectiveness, and impact of Alcon products. Whether you are onsite or remote within the US, your dynamic role encompasses employing robust statistical methodologies in shaping development plans, crafting statistically sound evidence strategies aligned with regulatory standards, and bringing statistical innovation to bear on projects in one of our therapeutic/technology areas. From devising program strategies to interpreting data, your expertise will enable our mission to help people see brilliantly.

On a typical day your role may include:

  • Using sound statistical methodology to devise development plans in one or more therapeutic/technology areas.

  • Using sound statistical approaches to design studies, including randomized control studies and real-world evidence (RWE) studies.

  • Preparing the statistical component of protocols which meet project objectives, health authority guidelines, and clinical trial methodology standards.

  • Independently develop and implement advanced statistical methodologies, ensuring appropriate implementation to address project needs in a therapeutic/technology area. Serves as resident expert and Biostatistics go-to person for the therapeutic/technology area.

  • Analyze and interpret complex clinical trial data, including efficacy and safety endpoints, and provide actionable insights to support decision-making.

  • Collaborate with statisticians, data scientists, and programmers to ensure the accurate and timely delivery of statistical outputs for regulatory submissions and scientific publications.

  • Review and contribute to study protocols, statistical analysis plans, and clinical study reports, adhering to regulatory guidelines and industry best practices.

  • Supporting the regulatory review and approval of the experimental therapies/devices

  • Conduct exploratory data analysis and utilize sophisticated statistical techniques to identify trends, patterns, and potential safety signals in clinical trial data.

  • Participate in the review of external business opportunities, using data and scientific insights to make actionable recommendations to management on such opportunities.

  • Ensure methodological rigor in cost-effectiveness, burden-of-illness, and comparative effectiveness research.

  • Mentorship and guidance of junior statisticians, fostering a collaborative and learning-oriented environment within the team.

  • Contribute to the development of long-term goals and operating policies for Statistics Department through role on the Statistics Leadership Team.

Experience:

  • 15 years of post-graduate experience in Statistics or related quantitative discipline

  • Strong background in any of health economics and outcome research (HEOR), medical affairs or methods for real-world data is strongly preferred

  • Excellent written and oral communication

WHAT YOU'LL BRING TO ALCON:

  • Bachelor's Degree or Equivalent years of directly related experience (or high school +18 yrs; Assoc.+14 yrs; M.S.+7 yrs; PhD+6 yrs)

  • The ability to fluently read, write, understand, and communicate in English

  • 10 Years of Relevant Experience

  • 6 Years of Demonstrated Leadership
