Job Responsibilities |
The Ralph C. Wilson, Jr. School of Education was created in 2003 and is accredited by the Council for the Accreditation of Education Preparation (
CAEP). Fisher is among just 24 providers in New York state with
CAEP accreditation. The School provides degree options at the undergraduate, master's, and doctoral levels to prepare education professionals for certification as well as teaching, librarianship, and leadership careers in schools, elementary through high school. With the School's emphasis on social justice, graduates learn how to engage their own students as they develop, making a lasting impact on individual lives and the greater community. Through curriculum and experiential learning opportunities, led by expert faculty and dedicated staff, students develop into the educators, librarians, and leaders the world needs today.
The Ralph C. Wilson, Jr., School of Education at St. John Fisher University, Rochester, New York is committed to excellence in teaching, scholarship, advisement, and service. The Library Media Specialist Program in the School of Education is seeking qualified applicants for a one-year, full- time, 12-month position (with the possibility of renewal) as a Graduate Program Chair and Visiting Assistant Professor or Visiting Instructor depending on level of education.
The Chair will provide leadership and management for all of the program's strategic initiatives and operations. The Chair also has teaching responsibilities in the program. The Chair reports to the School of Education Dean. In addition, the chair will oversee curriculum and curricular change in consultation with the teaching faculty in the graduate program, engage in teaching and scholarship, aggressively pursue recruitment expansion of this fully online library media program, oversee program revision leading to institutional and national recognition approval, and oversee revision of online syllabi, materials, and support structures. The chair will also provide academic leadership in the ongoing efforts to maintain and develop instructional programs of high quality, facilitate course scheduling and staffing, provide students with academic advising, oversee the program budget, and organize and oversee practicums. The chair will work with Lavery Library/Curriculum Center to ensure availability of materials and services to candidates, develop and maintain
NYC cohort partnerships, and pursue
CAEP accreditation for the program and oversee ongoing accreditation compliance.

Required Qualifications
- Master of Library Science and Certified Library Media Specialist
- Demonstrated success in recruiting candidates, managing applicant pipelines, creating partnerships, and coordinating marketing strategies for recruitment
- Demonstrated commitment to the mission of the School of Education
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with others and adaptable to change
- Demonstrated skills in instructional technology and teaching in an online modality
Preferred Qualifications
- Ph.D., or Ed.D., other terminal degrees in the field of study preferred or shall have demonstrated, in other widely recognized ways, special competence in the field of Library Science.
- Expertise/K-12 Certifications and ability to teach in other curricula areas
- Demonstrated potential for teaching excellence, research, advisement and service
