Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit |
The
UNC Chapel Hill Department of Transportation and Parking is an essential part of
UNC Chapel Hill and is responsible for coordinating all traffic, parking and transportation services for
UNC Chapel Hill's campus. The department strives to provide a high level of service to students, employees and visitors who work, live, and visit the University and
UNC Health Care System. Transportation & Parking (T&P), partners with stakeholders and customers to manage this key University infrastructure system effectively and efficiently balancing limited resources and the diverse needs of the campus community. The department manages 10 parking decks and 160 surface parking areas with approximately 23,000 parking spaces providing employee, student, patient/visitor, and event access to the
UNC campus. The University and
UNC HealthCare System rely on a multi-modal transportation system that is heavily dependent upon local and regional transportation to provide access to the campus and hospitals.
UNC partners with local and regional transit agencies to provide fare free at boarding local transit and subsidized regional transit opportunities for employees and students. T&P services and partners include Chapel Hill Transit, Triangle Transit Authority, Piedmont Area Rapid Transit, and Chatham Transit Network in addition to the
UNC P2P Express and P2P On-Demand services. T&P also offers a
UNC Commuter Alternative Program(
CAP) that incentivizes commuting opportunities including off-campus park & ride with frequent transit, Zip Ride (car rental by the hour), Zim Ride (ride sharing service), and van pool subsidy and coordination. T&P plans, manages, and implements traffic, transit, and parking services on a daily basis and during major campus events such as large-scale athletic events, performing arts, Commencement, and
VIP visits occurring at
UNC. |
Position Summary |
The Parking Events Manager coordinates and manages parking and traffic arrangements for all events facilitated on campus. This position will conduct planning meetings with campus partners and event hosts to understand the scale and scope of event needs. Utilizing information gathered from planning meetings, this position will develop a comprehensive parking and traffic plan including creating event specific parking permits, creating a way of finding signage, preparing written driving instructions, communicating event traffic and parking impacts to the campus community, preparing quotes for services and developing a final invoice. The event manager will coordinate post and task assignments for each employee using a pool of internal and external contracted employees. Events include but are not limited to Commencement, athletic events including football, men's basketball and
NCAA and
ACC conference games, concerts, performing arts, and
VIP visits to campus. This position develops and executes the traffic and parking plans to host these events including participating in planning meetings with high-ranking University officials and external stakeholders such as, local, and regional law enforcement and emergency management officials, and federal officials including the
FBI and Secret Service for
POTUS campus visits. Transportation and Parking is an Emergency Support Function 1, and this position is responsible for responding to campus emergencies and responding to emergent situations including supporting sudden and unplanned campus-wide egress. This position is required to work all home football games, representing Transportation and Parking in the game day operations center providing guidance for traffic control for ingress and egress and coordinating shuttle operations.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements |
Bachelor's degree and one year of experience related to the area of assignment; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions. |
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience |
Valid North Carolina Driver's License.
Significant experience in business management including budget planning and management, financial forecasting, purchasing, and personnel management. |
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience |
Experience in managing event traffic and parking operations.
Training or graduate certificate in emergency management. |

Campus Security Authority Responsibilities |
This position is designated as a Campus Security Authority in accordance with the Clery Act. This position will be required to report Clery crimes to the Clery Compliance Manager and complete annual training about reporting responsibilities. |
