Overview

Acts Retirement-Life Communities is seeking a skilled Public Relations Director to lead our organization's earned media strategy. In this high-impact role, you'll lead proactive media outreach and craft stories that showcase our vibrant residents, thriving communities, and inspiring mission. Reporting to the Managing Director, Corporate Communications, this media savvy professional excels at building media relationships, uncovering and pitching compelling human-interest stories and delivering coverage that captures hearts, engages audiences, and strengthens our brand presence on a local, regional, and national stage.

Key Responsibilities:

    Develop and execute a comprehensive earned media strategy that showcase the lives, achievements, and experiences of our residents and the dynamic spirit within our active lifestyle communities.
  • Proactively identify, craft, and pitch human interest stories that generate coverage from hometown media and niche publications to influential national outlets.
  • Partner with community and regional leadership to uncover story leads and align coverage with brand positioning.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with reporters, editors, producers, and influencers to maximize positive coverage opportunities in multiple Acts regional markets.
  • Serve as a spokesperson for Acts when appropriate, and prepare leaders, residents, and team members for media interviews.
  • Provide oversight for multimedia content to enhance storytelling and media coverage.
  • Monitor news and trends and position Acts in timely, relevant conversations in the senior living and lifestyle spaces.
  • Collaborate with marketing and social media teams to amplify earned media wins across multiple brand channels.
  • Leverage artificial intelligence (AI) and analytics tools to track, measure, and report on media results to demonstrate impact and refine strategies.
  • Travel periodically, including overnights, to support on-site media initiatives at Acts' 28 communities across nine states.



Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Public Relations, Communications, Journalism, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 6-10 years of proven success in pitching and securing media coverage-ideally in lifestyle, hospitality, or human-interest sectors.
  • Demonstrated ability to craft irresistible story angles and build relationships with media contacts at local, regional, and national outlets.
  • Exceptional writing, editing, and storytelling skills with a knack for turning everyday moments into share-worthy news for traditional and digital media.
  • Experience managing media relations across multiple markets, serving as a public facing spokesperson, and media coach for individuals being interviewed.
  • Strategic thinker with the ability to balance day-to-day media needs and long-term brand goals.
  • Proficiency with AI, public relations and content management tools.
  • Passion for the active lifestyle senior living space and a genuine interest in telling the stories of vibrant older adults living life to the fullest in Acts communities.
  • Must be highly organized, detail-oriented, and adept at managing competing priorities.
  • Frequent travel, as needed, to support community-based earned media initiatives.

Salary range: $95,000-115,000

Pay Range

$91,000.00 - $115,000.00 / year. Starting rate will vary based on skills and experience.
