Nuclear Safety Engineer

DESCRIPTION OF WORK - GENERAL

The candidate shall support the client with senior Nuclear Safety Support. This scope will include the generation of Criticality Safety documentation, nuclear safety support to Operations, and will include interface with permanent staff as well as subcontract staff preparing nuclear safety deliverables.

DESCRIPTION OF WORK - SPECIFIC
  • The Contractor shall support nuclear safety activities associated with developing, implementing, interpreting, and enforcing facility Documented Safety Analysis (DSA) and Technical Safety Requirements (TSR). Nuclear safety personnel shall support the following activities:
  • Documents and Requirements: Prepare, review, and verify implementation of Nuclear Safety Basis, DSA and TSR documents and requirements.
  • Resolution of Unreviewed Safety Question (USQ) Determinations (USQD) issues.
  • Provide factual accuracy review of Safety Evaluation Reports (SER).
  • Nuclear Safety-related assessments and/or walk-throughs.
  • Nuclear safety-related DOE orders and regulations compliance support, including implementation of USQ guidance.
  • Support in performance of routine and ad-hoc reviews, assessments, and oversight walk-downs of nuclear safety program adequacy, implementation, and compliance verification/oversight activities.
  • Training and mentoring of nuclear safety staff and operations staff on nuclear safety policies and programs
  • Provide USQ screenings, USQ determinations, and/or application of USQ categorical exclusions for work control documents, procedure revisions, modification packages, or other identified documents/changes.

REQUIREMENTS
  • Must be a US Citizen
  • Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Art degree in engineering, mathematics, physics or a related technical field. Client accepts an education equivalency of two (2) years of experience for one (1) year of education.
  • Minimum of 15 years in the nuclear safety industry, of which at least eight (8) years must be directly related to the required area of expertise as a nuclear safety engineer as defined under 10 CFR 830.
  • Must have related experience in performing all of the tasks outlined in Description of Work - Specific listed above. This can be demonstrated by a combination of education and experience.
