Lactation Consultant

JOB SPECIFIC QUALIFICATIONS

   International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) required.

   
   

1. 
   

   Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Nutrition Sciences, Dietetics, Registered Nurse, or other related degree required.

   
   

1. 
   

   Professional knowledge of breastfeeding process.

   
   

1. 
   

   Skills, knowledge, and interest in promotion of breastfeeding.

   
   

1. 
   

   Communication skills essential for interactions with patients, families and colleagues and ability to respond to their needs.

   
   

1. 
   

   Understanding of current breastfeeding trends, practices and research findings.

   
   

1. 
   

   Knowledge of cultural, psychological, and nutritional aspects of breastfeeding.

   
   

1. 
   

   Knowledge of a wide range of acute and chronic conditions and wellness/preventative services found in clinic setting serving antepartum, intra-partum, postpartum patients and newborns to toddlers.

   
   

1. 
   

   Knowledge of pharmaceuticals and effect on lactation for pregnant/breastfeeding moms and their babies.

   
   

1. 
   

   Problem solving skills.

   
   

1. 
   

   Analytical skills to organize and prepare plan of care.

   
   

1. 
   

   Possession of a valid Wisconsin Driver license with a good driving record, access to a vehicle and the ability to travel.

   
   

1. 
   

   Minimum of two (2) years of experience as an IBCLC, experience in a medical setting required. Experience in a clinical outpatient setting preferred; experience with pediatrics.

   
   

1. 
   

   Strong background in educational program development, implementation and evaluation preferred.

   
   

1. 
   

   Ability to be culturally sensitive and work with a diverse population.

   
   

1. 
   

   Ability to read, develop, write, explain and critique a variety of creative written patient education materials required.

   
   

1. 
   

   Ability to maintain patient confidentiality required. Knowledge of or ability to learn HIPAA requirements.

   
   

1. 
   

   Knowledge of and ability to use computers. Familiarity with Microsoft Office programs. Ability to learn and use electronic medical record systems such as EPIC.

   Strong verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills.

   
   

1. 
   

   Good organizational skills with the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously with frequent interruptions required. Good problem solving skills required.

   
   

1. 
   

   Ability to be a team player in a team oriented environment required. Ability to interact with staff at all levels required.

   
   

1. 
   

   Ability to be flexible, meet deadlines, work under pressure, and manage changing priorities required.

   Ability to work flexible hours as required.

   Ability to speak and listen in person and on the phone required. Ability to work indoors required.

   Ability to lift, carry and push a maximum of 15 pounds required. Ability to perform fingering and handling with one or both hands required. Ability to see at near, mid and far range required.
