Small Business Liaison

Department of Administrative Services - Economic Development

Hourly Pay Range: $33.65 - $42.12

Limited Time Employment: Four (4) Years

Closing Date: 7/23/2025 or upon receipt of the first 50 applications

Job Summary: Under the supervision of the Director of Economic Development, the Small Business Liaison will foster collaboration, communication, partnerships, and investments in the local small business community in Milwaukee County. This is a new position at Milwaukee County, and the right candidate will be self-motivated, entrepreneurial, outcome-oriented, and partnership-minded.

Essential Responsibilities:



  • Organize press releases, ribbon cuttings, marketing, and communication around small business and economic development efforts and results.
  • Directly support small businesses to navigate municipal permitting processes and through connections to resources.
  • Seek additional funding opportunities to grow the Building Bridges program.
  • Manage and communicate a list of resources and partners available to small businesses.
  • Partner with local municipalities to support their vision to activate commercial corridors and to fill vacant spaces. Nurture relationships between local businesses, municipalities, and economic development organizations. Mediate between business owners and municipalities to ensure positive outcomes.
  • Administer small business grants (as available). Receive and review applications, market programs, process awards, write reports, and ensure compliance.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.



Minimum Requirements:



  • Must be a current resident of Wisconsin.
  • Valid Wisconsin Driver's License and personal vehicle, both able to be maintained throughout employment.
  • Bachelor's Degree or higher in Real Estate, Public Affairs, Urban Planning, Law, Business, or a related field.
  • At least three (3) years of experience in Small Business Technical Assistance, Finance, Urban Planning, Public Service, or Architecture.
  • Intermediate knowledge of all related computer and software applications, such as word processing and spreadsheets.



Preferred Qualifications:



  • Economic Development Finance Professional certification.
  • Proficient in Spanish.
  • Commercial Real Estate experience.
  • Understanding of the local small business ecosystem.
