Responsibilities & Expectations:

This position reports to the Engineering Manager and is responsible for overseeing and creating detailed drawings and specifications for steel components and related activities associated with industrial construction projects. Responsibilities include Autodesk Inventor and AutoCAD drafting, structural calculations, work scope preparation, project cost estimation, field installation procedures, inspection reports, and field construction support. The role involves collaboration with engineers, technicians, administrative personnel, suppliers, and end customers. This is primarily an office-based position with frequent field travel to jobsites.

  • Design for field and shop construction from fabrication through final installation, with primary focus on structural detailing; involvement in electrical, mechanical, and other design aspects may be required under time-sensitive deadlines.
  • Perform steel structural system design, calculations, stress analysis, foundation design, and construction observation; must understand multiple aspects of civil work, including field equipment, shop tools, civil engineering standards, and industrial work practices.
  • Develop structural system drawings using Autodesk Inventor 3D and AutoCAD 2D; prepare layouts and detailed drawings as required by the construction department.
  • Conduct field visits to prepare cost estimates for customer RFQs and inspect the progress of ongoing projects.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Competencies:

  • 5+ years of experience in the structural design or construction industry
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Civil or Mechanical Engineering (ABET-accredited) preferred
  • Concrete structural design experience preferred
  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, etc.)
  • Practical experience and proficiency with Autodesk Inventor and AutoCAD 2D
  • Strong attention to detail with a high level of accuracy
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong customer service skills with the ability to remain calm in stressful situations
  • Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced, challenging environment
  • Ability to take direction and work independently while also collaborating effectively with a team
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Self-starter capable of making sound, timely decisions
  • Demonstrated history of reliability and dependability; ability to work overtime as required
  • Ability to physically perform required duties, including bending, lifting, carrying, squatting, climbing ladders, working in confined spaces, and standing for prolonged periods
  • Willingness to wear personal protective equipment and work around industrial equipment
  • Willingness to travel and work in various geographic locations, both indoors and outdoors
  • Ability to drive to customer locations as required
  • Willingness to submit to background and drug screening
