Summary of the Job:

We're seeking a visionary Chief Investment Officer (CIO) to lead FNBO's investment strategy across our Wealth Management division a client-first mindset rooted in education, communication, and trust. This executive will serve as a public-facing investment leader, guiding strategic thinking, mentoring advisors, and representing our point of view to clients, the media, and the broader community.

About This Role:

Investment Strategy & Thought Leadership

- Develop and champion FNBO's investment strategy with a focus on long-term wealth preservation, client education, and accessible advice.
- Lead investment committees, including Asset Allocation, Mutual Fund, Investment Committees and participate in additional committees as appropriate.
- Monitor economic trends and translate insights into digestible content for advisors and clients alike.
- Guide the development of investment commentary, research, and outreach materials for multiple distribution channels.

Client-Focused Portfolio Oversight

- Oversee the creation of model portfolios and product strategies aligned with the needs of individual investors, families, and business owners.
- Ensure risk frameworks match real-world client goals rather than institutional volatility benchmarks.
- Support advisors in investment conversations with clients and prospects.

Leadership & Collaboration

- Lead and inspire a team of investment professionals and strategists, encouraging clarity, purpose, and proactive service.
- Work in partnership with advisors, marketing, compliance, and client experience leaders to build and scale a trusted investment voice.
- Promote a culture that values accountability, transparency, and intellectual integrity.

Public Representation & Community Presence

- Represent FNBO's investment perspective in the media, at client events, webinars, podcasts, and national industry panels.
- Write or contribute to published investment thought pieces and market commentary.
- Be a recognized, respected voice in the wealth management industry-bringing national visibility and credibility to FNBO's brand.

Regulatory Stewardship

- Ensure all strategies, communications, and product oversight meet regulatory and fiduciary standards (OCC, SEC, etc.).
- Partner with Legal and Compliance to uphold best-in-class governance practices.

The Ideal Candidate for This Role:

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Finance, Economics, or a related field (MBA preferred).
  • 20+ years of experience in investment management, including 10+ years in a leadership role.

- Preferred applicants will have experience working with individuals in a bank Wealth Management or RIA environment.

A communicator and educator: Someone who can discuss insights on markets and economics with internal partners across the bank's footprint, clients and write articles that get shared.
- A visible thought leader: Experience with CNBC, Bloomberg, WSJ, Barron's, or podcasts a plus.
- An advisor's partner: You understand the advisor-client relationship and work to strengthen it.
- A strategist, not a speculator: Focused on long-term, risk-adjusted outcomes-not short-term outperformance.
- A credible credential-holder: CFA, required.

Available locations for role: FNBO Footprint: Omaha, NE; Kansas City, KS, Minneapolis, MN; Denver, CO markets.

Base Pay Range $225,000-$350,000
