The Position

This position is responsible for assisting in techniques, tactics, coaching and recruitment of student athletes in the program.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist with daily planning, organization and supervision of practices and competitions.
  • Recruit, retain, and develop jumpers and pole vaulters on the Track & Field team.

o This position's main coaching responsibility will be working with the jumpers and vaulters on a daily basis, but will assist in other areas where needed.

  • Participate in efforts to recruit qualified student-athletes (from all event groups) for the program by identifying and engaging recruits to help meet the annual recruitment and retention goals.
  • Schedule recruiting visits - assists in all aspects of the recruiting visit - tour, meals, meetings with student-athlete and family, schedule hosts and develop itinerary for overnight visits, etc.
  • Assist the Director of Track & Field and Cross Country in the college's efforts to foster the athletic development of student-athletes within the program to include individual and group event coaching.
  • Assist in efforts to foster the personal growth and academic success of student-athletes by demonstrating individual care and concern for our athletes as students and unique individuals, referring them to campus support services as needed and counseling students of the rigors of collegiate academic work while being an athlete.
  • Administrative tasks such as writing practice plans, scheduling transportation / food for home and away meets, buying food/snacks for team for competition days, scheduling hotels for away meets, meet management duties for RC hosted home track meets, etc.
  • Run social media accounts (Instagram, X, etc.) for the Track & Field / Cross Country program.
  • Assists with Cross Country teams as needed per Director of Track & Field / Cross Country.
    • Driving vans, helping facilitate student workers from track team when hosting cross country home meets, traveling with cross country teams if needed, etc.
  • Collaborate with event management staff to work with scheduling of officials and other details for a successful event.
  • Participates in fundraising and public relations activities.
  • Carries out other duties as assigned by the Director of Track & Field and Cross Country.

Education, Experience, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • One to three years of intercollegiate participation / coaching experience at an NCAA sponsored institution.
  • Knowledge and experience working with athletes in the jumps and pole vault.
  • Knowledge of principles, methods and techniques associated with Track & Field / Cross Country.
  • Strong written and oral communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
  • Proven track record of consistency, modeling positive behaviors at all times.
  • Strong follow-up and follow-through skills as well as ability to plan, organize and control projects through to completion.
  • Ability to handle and maintain confidential information.
  • Maintain valid driver's license and satisfactory driving record.
  • Willingness and ability to work effectively with all campus and associated constituencies.
  • Have working knowledge of MS Word, Excel, Outlook a working familiarity with computer systems (including social media).
  • CPR/AED certification within 60 days.
