Job Summary

The UCDH Department of Radiology provides diagnostic radiological services to adult and pediatric inpatients and outpatients. Under the direction of the Ambulatory Care Supervisor(s), and the Manager, the MOSC 2 provides patient care coordination to Radiology modalities. As the support member in Radiology, the incumbent is responsible for sustaining an environment of intrinsic goodwill in which to provide his/her assigned patient population all essential non-medical assistance in areas of appointment scheduling, registration, ancillary visits, patient population, and insurance administration.

Incumbents are expected to adhere to the established protocols of the Department of Radiology, practice standards, and principles of managed care. This person interacts directly with Radiologists, clinicians, community physicians, and other University personnel. Incumbent works independently and work is referred to his/her supervisor when standard procedure or processes do not apply.

Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position

  • High School/ GED equivalent or related work experience.
  • No minimum work experience
  • Demonstrated knowledge of medical terminology and anatomy sufficient to schedule patient exams, read patient diagnostic physicians, log patient diagnosis and research film inquiries.
  • Working knowledge of Radiology practices and protocols related to appointments, medical records, and other business and office procedures.
  • Working knowledge of Health Care Insurance programs such as Medi-Cal, Medicare, HMO, PPO, fee for service, and worker's compensation, sufficient to obtain and track authorizations, appoint patients, make referrals for consults, diagnostics, ancillary services, coordinate hospital admissions, complete and submit billing documentation, and explain provisions and requirements to patients.
  • Written and oral communication skills clearly and concisely provide information, explanations and instructions to and to elicit information form others with varying levels of ability to understand, including individuals who are ill, distressed, or for whom English may be a second language.
  • Organizing skills to establish priorities for own work within stated guidelines; respond flexibility to changes in priorities; and maintain work effectiveness in a setting with a high volume of patient and activity and frequent interruptions.
  • Remains flexible and adaptable to changes in policies and procedures.
  • Interpersonal skills to establish and maintain a friendly, welcoming environment for clinic's customers; to demonstrate an interested, understanding, compassionate and caring manner; to maintain a courteous and calm demeanor; and to use a firm and assertive approach to negotiate with and persuade others to take required action.
  • Accomplishes a variety of concurrent assignments in an effective and efficient manner.
  • Organize and prioritize assignments to complete assignments in a timely and efficient manner, particularly when there are changes in workload assignments, pressures of deadlines or heavy workload.
  • Ability to present a professional appearance and manner.
  • Ability to maintain composure, efficiently and a positive, customer-service oriented manner during periods of peak workload, with frequent interruptions, under tight deadlines, and when interacting with customers who are ill, injured, angry, or emotionally distressed.

Work Environment

UC Davis is a smoke and tobacco free campus effective January 1, 2014. Must be able to work variable hours, alternate shifts and occasional overtime to provide coverage as needed for sick leave, staffing shortages, etc. Must be able to rotate for evening, weekend and holiday coverage per departmental staff guidelines as needed. Must adhere to all policies and procedures. No eating allowed in work areas. Must keep work area clean and free of debris. Must maintain current medical monitoring and preventive medical programs including but not limited to TB testing, annual immunizations, current CPR per JC and CDPH requirements. Excellent attendance and punctuality required. If applicable, incumbent must be Zone III and Zone IV safe at all times while working in the MR Suite.
