IFF is looking to add a Maintenance Leader as part of an expansion at our Cedar Rapids location.

In this role you would have full management of the maintenance program, providing a range of services to ensure continuous plant operation in a safe and efficient manner. The maintenance service is to be provided by skilled staff in the most timely, efficient and cost-effective way. The ideal candidate is a positive, willing, contributing and adaptable member of the team at all times.

Health and Safety

  • Role model safety values and sets clear expectations of safety performance for direct reports and their teams
  • Engages all team members in health, safety & well-being creating an inclusive, action-oriented culture
  • Supports the selection, development & release for meetings of direct reports for H&S Representation
  • Ensures all activities are carried out safely by staff and meet the requirements of the Work Safe Act and are in accordance with the Company Health and Safety Policies
  • Ensure that all personnel (including Taura and/or Contractors) carry out all activities to company standards and take appropriate action to eliminate, isolate or minimize any safety hazards
  • All accidents and /or near misses by self or others are quickly and accurately reported and investigated and corrective action implemented
  • Ensures that he/she is always aware and committed to his/her safety and the safety of colleagues, contractors and visitors

Sustainability

  • Displays a strong personal and professional commitment to sustainability and the willingness to actively contribute to the Company's sustainability policy for positive social, economic and environmental outcomes with a positive, professional attitude at all times

Staff Management

  • Oversees all Maintenance activities to ensure the smooth and efficient running of Company operations
  • Effective management of staff absenteeism, sick leave, annual leave, recruitment and selection of engineering personnel
  • Effective rostering and scheduling of work flow
  • Ensure all staff have a proactive approach to staff training and transfer of skills and knowledge so that staff become better educated, skilled and trained
  • Provide advice and direction to staff based on sound judgment and research should questions or expertise be sought
  • Provide feedback and observations regarding individual staff performance and capabilities to the Operations Manager

Technical Advice

  • Provisions of technical advice to Shift Managers/Supervisors, Engineers, PCI, Operations, Plant Services and the Process Development Leaders

Preventative Maintenance

  • Develop, implement and maintain a formalized documented cost-effective planned maintenance system which ensures routine maintenance of critical plant items helping to prevent breakdowns
  • Effectively Collaborate with the H&B Maintenance team, Operations Team Leaders/Shift leads, Engineers, Plant Services and the Process Development Managers regarding maintenance activities
  • Co-ordination with external maintenance service providers to ensure all equipment is serviced at appropriate intervals in accordance with Company procedures and legislative requirements

Budget Management

  • Preparation of engineering budget ensuring all activities and spend remains relevant within budget
  • Actively aim to ensure all engineering activities and repairs are kept within the budget

Process Improvement

  • Seeks out and contributes to process/system improvement ideas by challenging the status quo in all aspects of the business e.g Health & Safety, Environmental, Production and System Efficiency
  • Effectively establish process improvement priorities in conjunction with Plant Operations.

Continuous Improvement

  • Identify opportunities for improvement of business performance to result in best practice and reduced costs
  • Proactive identification of any risks to business continuity or profitability and timely, effective mitigation of those risks
  • Develop, implement and maintain formalized, documented procedures for core Engineering activities
  • Actively drive continuous improvement of all activities to ensure best practice and ongoing improvement in business capability and performance
  • Management of, implementation of and active participation in project work as required and directed

Production Assistance

  • Contribution to improvement of production performance in any way required by the Plant Manager
  • Attend the toolbox, production, Operations meeting and any other meetings as required

Communication

  • Effective communication with Taura personnel regarding engineering activities
  • Ensure engineers clearly communicate with Taura personnel regarding engineering activities

Projects

  • Management of, implementation of and participation in engineering project works as required

Leadership & Team Development

  • Provide positive leadership and create a working environment that inspires, aligns, recognizes and sustains high performance.
  • Provide coaching and mentoring to direct reports and the broader team, enabling and empowering all employees.
  • Demonstrate 100% commitment to achieving targets and objectives.
  • Plan and manage staff development ensuring they have the skills and capability to support achievement of business goals and objectives, succession and the retention of key talent.
  • Conduct regular, formal personal performance reviews with Direct Reports & provide feedback and observations to support development.

  • Owner of all Maintenance SOP's.

  • In depth plant knowledge and understanding of process flow throughout the facility.

ROLE / PERSON SPECIFICATIONS

Experience / Skills:

  • Appropriate qualification e.g. mechanical, electrical
  • Staff Management
  • Maintenance Systems, including SAP, PLC, Factory Talk
  • Previous experience/exposure in a food environment
  • Successfully worked in an effective team
  • Conversant and proficient in the use of computers
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Minimum 6 years' experience in an industrial plant environment.
  • Minimum 2 years' experience with SAP in MRO/stock parts, permit issues, TECO, PM plans.
  • Minimum of 5+ years' experience in a position of leadership to include team development and management, required.
