I. Major Responsibilities:

1. Responsible for recruiting, interviewing, coordinating the hiring and training of Advanced Practice Providers (APPs) in collaboration with physician and administrative/operational leadership.
2. Develops and coordinates the schedule for all APPs in assigned service line as required. May manage APP time off requests.
3. Ensures adequate coverage in certain areas such as OR and Memorial Campus is provided; serves as a liaison with the private physicians and UMass Memorial Health Care (UMMHC) APPs.
4. Acts as a primary resource for clinic staff by providing guidance and support to clinical staff in the performance of daily activities regarding patient care.
5. Coordinates and tracks professional development for APPs as assigned.
6. Responsible for facilitation and ensuring timely completion of employee performance reviews in close collaboration with the supervising physicians and other leadership as applicable.
7. In collaboration with the Compliance Office and Coding Department, establishes and maintains departmental procedures that ensure appropriate APP billing education. Responsible for ensuring optimization of APP billing.
8. Attends departmental meetings. Serves as liaison between the Department Chair and APP staff.
9. Organizes monthly meetings with APP staff.
10. May maintain and present departmental Morbidity and Mortality records.
11. Coordinates care of all patients. Develops standard written algorithms to guide patient care. Provides and coordinates clinical feedback and fosters communication amongst nurse practitioners, physician assistants, nurse managers and nurse educators.

12. Participates in process and quality improvement project initiatives. In collaboration with physician leadership, identifies and leads efforts to improve efficiency of care delivery.

II. Position Qualifications:

License/Certification/Education:
Required:
1. Master's degree in Nursing and/or master's degree in a health care related field, including Physician Assistant.
2. Current Massachusetts licensure.
3. Certification as Acute Care Nurse Practitioner/Physician's Assistant with controlled substance authorization.
4. BLS certification.
5. ACLS certification, if/as required by department.

Experience/Skills:
Required:
1. Minimum five (5) years of clinical experience.
2. Experience with and ability to provide direct patient management.

Unless certification, licensure or registration is required, an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides proficiency in the areas of responsibility listed in this description may be substituted for the above requirements.

Department-specific competencies, including age-specific competencies, and their measurements will be developed and maintained in the individual departments. The competencies will be maintained and attached to the departmental job description. Responsible managers will review competencies with position incumbents.
