IMEG is growing, and we'd love to have you join our team! We are currently seeking a Security Designer in our Austin, TX office. The Security Technology Project Designer will lead design efforts as a project manager or lead designer for low to complex security projects. This role will also collaborate with senior engineering staff for the delivery of large and highly complex multi-disciplined projects. This role will be responsible for working closely with a team of engineers to provide security consulting solutions and advice to clients to ensure a positive outcome to projects.

Principal Responsibilities

  • Conduct site surveys to assess existing conditions, identify potential vulnerabilities, and evaluate construction progress.
  • Develop security designs, including system layouts, riser diagrams, and installation details, often using CAD and BIM software.
  • Prepare detailed engineering specifications outlining technical requirements for security systems.
  • Integrate security design into architectural plans, ensuring seamless functionality with other building systems.
  • Coordinate with the design team members, manage project timelines, and ensure projects are completed within budget and scope.
  • Provide construction administration services such as reviewing contractor submittals, respond to RFI's, and conducting site progress services.
  • Stay up to date with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in low-voltage technology.

Required Skills/Abilities

  • Experience in the Security System Design field is preferred.
  • Strong understanding of security system architectures, functionality, and capabilities. This includes experience with various technologies such as access control systems, video surveillance, and intrusion detection.
  • Expertise in using CAD software like AutoCAD and Revit for creating security system drawing and diagrams.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively collaborate with clients, colleagues, and contractors.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, meet deadlines, and coordinate with different stakeholders.
  • Ability to Identifying security risks, troubleshooting issues, and finding effective solutions.
  • Knowledgeable with relevant security standards and regulations, such as NFPA codes and industry best practices.
  • Proficient with MS Office Suite including but not limited to Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Ability to travel up to 20% with overnight stays.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Engineering, or equivalent required;
  • 3 years of experience minimum required, 4 preferred, in the building design consulting industry;
  • This position is not eligible for sponsorship

OR

  • Associates degree, or certificate, in Electrical / Electronic Engineering;
  • 4 years of experience minimum required, 5 preferred, in the security industry or 2 years of design consulting experience;
  • This position is not eligible for sponsorship

Physical Requirements

  • Regularly required to sit, walk, stand, talk, see, hear, and lift objects up to 25 pounds;
  • Occasionally required to drive, kneel, stoop, crouch, crawl, reach with hands or arms, and grasp or pull;
  • Will have limited exposure to outside weather conditions and loud noises.
