JOB DESCRIPTION Position Title: Assistive Technology Support Engineer Reports to: IT Project Manager of Enterprise Solutions Line of Business Subsidiary: Leisnoi Professional Services, LLC Location: Remote Job Status: Regular Full -Time SUMMARY: The Assistive Technology (AT) Support Engineer provides subject matter expertise to the government contract customer and its AT users. He/she evaluates, recommends, integrates, configures, deploys, and supports AT software in a secured Enterprise Windows client/server computing environment. The AT Support Engineer coordinates with customer personnel, other contractor personnel, and vendors to ensure knowledge of the market status of state-of-the-art improvements in assistive technologies. He/she is a specialist in Assistive Technology and possesses a variety of IT related skills and experience; Performs a wide spectrum of tasks such as requirements analysis, systems engineering and administration, network engineering and administration, programming and scripting, technical writing, and problem diagnosis and resolution. Essential Functions, Responsibilities & Duties may include, but are not limited to:
- Provide recommendations to government contract customer in the following areas:
- Provide guidance and instructions regarding Section 508 requirements and AT solutions
- Review and recommend emerging AT technology with potential to improve accessibility
- Evaluation of prospective software and recommendations for AT products to meet the needs of users
- Support for AT planning and configuration management process within the government customer infrastructure
- Support configuration management and IT infrastructure to best support the deployment and use of AT solutions
- Provide best practices to ensure software applications are accessible to EWDs
- Troubleshooting and evaluation of systems for compatibility with AT solutions
- Testing for compatibility and interoperability of multiple AT solutions
- Gathering performance and usability metrics for systems and AT solutions across the Enterprise
- Provide suggestions for alternate AT technologies and solutions to improve accessibility and enhance user capabilities
- Provide guidance for long range planning for legal, liability, and legislative issues
- Assist with the configuration of AT software and support automated and manual testing of applications and systems for Section 508 compliance and compatibility with AT solutions
- Assist in the installation and configuration for AT software and hardware within the government contract customer Enterprise network and with the DLA desktop image of approved applications
- Document status and results of all engineering support activities in government contract customer's enterprise help desk trouble ticketing system
- Document steps and results of engineering support activities in DLA Knowledge
- Management articles to aid support personnel when troubleshooting similar situations
- Research version changes and updates to AT and create documentation to minimize issues encountered during the upgrade process
- Provide technical recommendations regarding AT hardware, including AT scanners, Braille reading devices, Braille printers, hand-held AT devices for vision impaired users, OCR reading devices and phones for vision and hearing-impaired users
- Communicate technical issues to AT software vendors and open trouble tickets with vendors as necessary to troubleshoot DLA AT issues
- Communicate and coordinate AT issues with other government contract customer entities: such as networking, cybersecurity, desktop support, desktop imagining, configuration management, routing/firewall, and telephony
- Troubleshoot applications to determine accessibility and section 508 compliance and make recommendations to ensure compliant applications
- Work with third party software compliance tools
- Test and install third party scripts so various AT software products work seamlessly with government contract customer applications and document the process in Knowledge Management Articles
- Confer with other government contract customer application owners to troubleshoot and maintain hot keys and scripting to optimize AT performance
- Perform AT license management assistance and coordinate AT licensing issues with the DLA Asset Manager
- Perform other engineering support duties as assigned
User Support:
- Assist AT users by phone, remotely, and via desk side support
- Diagnose and correct hardware and software problems related to accessibility and AT
- Identify, assess, troubleshoot, research, recommend, and document appropriate AT solutions
- Assist with setup, installation, and configuration of AT software and hardware for AT users
- Create/update trouble tickets to document issues in automated ticket system
- Perform other user support duties as assigned
Desired Skills:

- Well organized, detail orientated, and able to handle a fast-paced work environment
- Proficient with MS Office
- Experience working for a government contractor
- Ideal candidate will have experience with all of the following assistive technologies: JAWS, ZoomText, Fusion, Dragon Naturally Speaking, and Kurzweil 3000
- JAWS certification desirable
Qualifications:
- Five years of experience in the information technology field to include systems engineering and systems administration and integration.
- Two years of experience in deploying, supporting, and maintaining assistive technology in the Enterprise environment, engineering, and integration.
- Proficient in English language
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- US Citizenship required
Security & Certifications:
- Sensitivity Level: IT level I (background investigation)
- Meets and maintains certification requirements of DoD 8570.1-M/8410 Information Assurance Workforce Improvement Program - at preset:

- Desktop Windows 10 (must have or be able to quickly obtain ONE of the following):
- Microsoft 365 Certified: Modern Desktop Administrator Associate
- Certiport Information Technology Specialist - Device Configuration and Management
- Server Windows Azure:
- Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate
