Summary:

The Systems Integration Engineer will develop and build interfaces to Contexture participant EHR applications. The role will ensure system integrity, compatibility, standardization, and security of interfaces. The Systems Integration Engineer will report to the Lead Systems Integration Engineer and interact with other Contexture teams and clients.

This position is based in Phoenix Arizona, Denver or Grand Junction Colorado. Our strategic flexibility allows for local work from home opportunities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:



  • Strong ability to understand technical and clinical workflows of health information systems and the industry standards of messaging to current and future Contexture HIE services and products
  • Provides interface design (data mapping, translation, and transformation specifications) and architectural services for new and existing projects and is interoperable with diverse systems
  • Develop interfaces for a variety of platforms and applications
  • Analyze interface specifications, standards, and HL7 messages/CCDA documents for implementation projects
  • Strategically collect, retain, and normalize meaningful data from Contexture participants for current and future use
  • Troubleshoot and manage technical issues during Data Analysis, Build, QA, UAT testing and post production support with participants and vendors.
  • Identify and negotiate with participant or vendor to implement appropriate solution required to remediate any gaps in the interface specifications and clinical data (HL7 messages, CCDA documents, Reports) while adhering to Contexture standards
  • Function as main technical contact and drive complex, technical issues to resolution
  • Create and update Technical Solution and Interface Specification templates, ensuring adequate documentation is developed and maintained for each interface
  • Update technical implementation guides when changes are made to the process for any project type
  • Create repeatable implementation plans, where possible, and propose and defend standard changes to the Change Advisory Board for production configuration changes to the HIE system
  • Implement system changes and support participant upgrades that impact the HIE
  • Testing and validation of interfaces and tools developed by Contexture or Contexture vendors and provide recommendations for improvements
  • Assess new vendors' technical capabilities and ability to integrate with Contexture by supporting the Business Development Team in determining vendor readiness to connect with the HIE
  • Serve as a Subject Matter Expert on Vendor/Contexture platform for other teams
  • Execute test plans for any project type as needed
  • Work closely with the Implementation and Application, Development & Support teams to support technical efforts throughout the life of a project
  • Develop, maintain, and continually improve internal custom tools and solutions
  • Implement Object Identifiers (OIDs) and branching methodologies for new and existing participants
  • Work with other platform engineers and architects to design, build, and maintain highly scalable production systems and services that support all business units in Contexture
  • Provide technical feedback to other engineers through design reviews, and collaborative problem-solving sessions
  • Manage competing projects and initiatives while self-managing through difficult and demanding situations with timely decision making and creative problem solving
  • Comprehend new products, services, and skills to implement new Contexture integrations
  • Learn and provide operational back-up support to other members of the Contexture Integration Team
  • As applicable, after hours may be necessary to support after hours deployments, changes, or major incident response
  • Drafts deployment plans for new products and project implementations
  • Execute deployment plans in Stage and Production environments across applicable systems
  • Design and build a core data set of clinical data elements and develop test scripts for testing and quality control
  • Assist end users in implementing controls to ensure that defined, mission-critical interfaces are passing data accurately
  • Coordinate efficiency between test and production environments
  • Identify potential areas for improvement to promote efficiency and automation
  • Performs other related duties as assigned

Skills



  • Demonstrable skill with SQL, Mongo, API, XML, SOAP, HL7, CCD, XDS.b, XCA, JavaScript
  • An understanding of Web Services and JSON.FHIR, a plus.
  • Expertise working with an interface engine and understanding of the concepts for filtering, mapping HL7 messages and troubleshooting
  • Solid knowledge of interface technology and coding standards such as HL7, XML, LOINC, SNOMED, CCD-A, and FHIR
  • Experience managing healthcare interoperability projects, processes, and associated technologies
  • Vendor-facing experience gathering requirements, analyzing needs, and creating a plan to address their needs
  • Excellent communication skills to support need to convey interface issues and potential solutions
  • Documentation skills, including creating as-built documentation for interface configuration
  • Experience working in partnership with a development team to properly create, test and deploy interfaces
  • Demonstrable experience working independently with ability to organize own work
  • Ability to identify technologies and acquire working knowledge of them to leverage them to create solutions
  • Familiarity with Agile Methodologies
  • Strong understanding of data exchange principles
  • Must be detail oriented and possess effective communication skills and can clearly communicate technical information to non-technical business users and customers
  • Receives general assignments with few instructions and operates without the need of direct supervision
  • Experience in design and development of interfaces and/or interoperability solutions for healthcare IT products, preferably HIE or Electronic Health Record Systems
  • Excellent analytical, design and troubleshooting skills with a strong commitment to quality
  • Excellent skills in research, analysis, and testing
  • Excels at working in a rapidly changing environment where processes may not always be defined; not afraid to learn as you go and work autonomously with little direction at times
  • Quickly comprehends the basic concepts and works to sharpen their skills and knowledge in defined areas
  • Advanced skills in understanding data workflows inside of systems and diagnosing root cause or points of failure



Education/Experience

Minimum of 4+ years of Information Technology experience, preferably in the healthcare industry. Bachelor's Degree with a concentration in Information Technology, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related technical discipline required.
