The Director of Project Management and Innovation Excellence is a global leadership position of high visibility and strategic importance responsible for leading the global project management team for Interventional Urology. This role develops, scopes and implements enterprise-wide business process improvements essential to meeting business objectives. This position will be responsible for developing a centralized global project management structure that leads project management across Interventional Urology's global functions by establishing the project methodologies, tracking and support needed to successfully complete cross-functional projects. It is critical that this role provides cross functional leadership and guidance to prioritize projects across functions and stakeholders. This requires non-functional bias and is focused on the overall business needs. In addition, this position leads business process improvements that drive excellence in innovation as measured by shorter development cycle times, higher quality development output and a more flexible/agile innovation organization. The scope of the position both for project management and innovation excellence involves global cross functional interaction and influence across all Interventional Urology.

Major Areas of Accountability



  • Lead the team of project managers that manages the execution of organic and inorganic projects globally for IU.
  • Prepare and deliver critical project results to IU Leadership and Coloplast Executive Leadership as requested.
  • Lead the project budget and schedule tracking to be efficient, effective, and visible to the organization.
  • Key member of the global innovation leadership team to deliver the product roadmap in support of effective portfolio management.
  • Define and drive strategies that support effective and efficient global project execution and resourcing.
  • Influence and negotiate globally and cross functionally to assure appropriate resource commitment for business-critical projects and initiatives.
  • Attract, retain, and develop Project Management talent in North American and European Interventional Urology sites.
  • Develop and implement business wide processes and discipline related to project contracts which establish business objectives for all Interventional Urology R&D projects.
  • Establish clear and consistent methodologies used by all project managers.
  • Challenge the timelines, resource allocation, and budget to secure timely high quality of work product deliverables for projects.
  • Effectively utilize directly or via the team, resource management tools for enterprise-wide resource tracking on development projects.
  • Ensure that project impediments are addressed, and that scope changes or challenges have effective recovery plans.
  • Standardized, globally, the tools and methods to communicate project status for IU management or other management boards as appropriate including project review meetings.
  • Ensure effective design transfer to the line organization.
  • Establish and maintain a post release process to measure business performance against anticipated objectives of the business.
  • Resolve project team conflicts, resource needs and requests on a global cross functional basis.
  • Drive cross functional team performance and expectations.
  • Global owner of Interventional Urology Innovation KPI metrics.
  • Ensure successful project team establishment and kick-off with a formal and clear project initiation process.
  • Gather lessons learned as appropriate from ongoing and completed projects to feedback into the product development process.
  • Work with the leadership team to identify business process improvements to drive excellence.
  • Establish and track metrics that demonstrate Innovation performance throughout the business (e.g. project performance, operations performance of completed projects).

Basic Qualifications



  • Bachelor of Science Degree in engineering or related experience in the field.
  • 15+ years of overall related leadership experience.
  • Previous management experience, preferably in the medical device industry.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple cross-functional projects.
  • Knowledge across the entire process of developing products from the concept phase through development, regulatory approval, production and launch.
  • In depth knowledge within the medical device industry including quality requirements and regulatory requirements.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Experienced presenter in corporate context.
  • Ability to influence all levels of management.
  • Ability to improve situations with proactive problem-solving skills and solution-oriented negotiation skills.
  • Experience in leading teams with highly skilled employees.
  • Ability to train, teach and lead others.
  • Ability to travel up to 30%



Preferred Qualifications



  • MBA or MS in engineering discipline or appropriate coursework in project management.

  • Competitive Compensation: The compensation range for this position is $140,864 - $211,296. Actual compensation is influenced by a variety of factors including but not limited to skills, experience, qualifications, and geographic location. Hired candidates may be eligible to receive additional compensation in the form of bonuses and/or incentives.
