Job Summary

Plays a key role in the design, implementation, and optimization of complex network infrastructures to ensure maximum reliability, performance, and security. Leads network projects, provides advanced troubleshooting, and manages network configurations for routers, switches, firewalls, and other critical networking equipment. Responsible for strategic planning, scaling the network architecture, and ensuring high availability while maintaining robust network security. Mentora junior engineers and collaborate with cross-functional teams. Role requires a deep technical understanding of networking protocols, advanced routing and switching, and network security principles, along with a proven ability to manage complex networks and resolve escalated technical challenges.

  • Designs, implements, and optimizes the company's network infrastructure, including LAN, WAN, VPN, and wireless networks.

  • Configures and maintains network devices such as routers, switches, firewalls, and wireless access points.

  • Ensures that network configurations are up to date and optimized for performance and reliability.

  • Diagnoses and resolves network issues related to hardware, software, routing, switching, and security ensuring minimal downtime and disruption.

  • Implements and manages network security systems and protocols, firewalls, VPNs, and other security measures to safeguard the network from cyber threats.

  • Monitors network performance using various tools and metrics to ensure optimal performance.

  • Analyzes traffic patterns, identifies bottlenecks, and takes corrective actions to improve efficiency and reduce latency.

  • Maintains clear and detailed documentation for network configurations, diagrams, and updates.

  • Generates and presents network performance reports to management, highlighting areas of improvement and progress.

  • Collaborates with IT teams, vendors, and external contractors to ensure network reliability and support.

  • Provides technical support for network-related issues and assists other departments with networking-related challenges.

  • Plans and executes network upgrades ensuring minimal downtime to support growth as business needs evolve.

  • Evaluates and integrates innovative technologies to enhance the network infrastructure and improve performance.

  • Plans for future growth and scalability of the network infrastructure.

  • Performs regular network audits and ensure optimal performance.

  • Identifies and resolves network bottlenecks, security vulnerabilities, and other issues.

  • Conducts security assessments and audits to identify vulnerabilities and mitigate risks.

  • Works with other IT teams (systems, database, etc.) to integrate network solutions with other systems.

  • Acts as a point of contact for escalated network-related issues and provide guidance to resolve them.

  • Creates and maintains detailed network diagrams, documentation, and standard operating procedures (SOPs).

  • Documents all network configurations, changes, and updates in a clear and accessible manner.

  • Manages relationships with external vendors and service providers for network services and equipment.

  • Evaluates and recommends network hardware/software solutions.

  • Assesses network performance, implementing improvements and optimizations to ensure high availability, reduced latency, and reliability.

  • Creates detailed network documentation, including topology diagrams, configurations, and troubleshooting guides. Provide ITS management with regular status reports and progress updates.

  • Provides mentorship and training to junior network engineers, sharing knowledge and best practices in network design, troubleshooting, and security.

  • Available onsite or remote during scheduled or unscheduled network maintenance and outages to assist in new implementations and upgrades.

  • Shares On-Call rotation duty

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Supervisory/Management Responsibilities

  • This is a non-management job that will report to a supervisor, manager, director or executive.

Minimum Requirements

  • Education - Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field of study

  • Experience - Five (5) years of experience in network engineering, with a strong focus on design, implementation, and troubleshooting.

In Lieu Of

  • In lieu of the education and experience requirements noted above, an equivalent combination of work/academic experience may be considered (i.e., High school diploma and nine years of experience, Associate degree and seven years of experience)

Required Certifications, Registrations, Licenses

  • Valid driver's license, an acceptable motor vehicle record as defined by the Acceptable Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) Chart, and proof of auto insurance.

  • Certified Cisco Network Associate (CCNA)

  • Certification(s) such as Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP), Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert (CCIE), or similar preferred

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Demonstrates thorough knowledge of at least four of the listed Network Technologies: including Routing, Switching, ACI, VPN (Site to Site and Client), Firewall, DNS, DHCP, Load Balancers, Wireless, Identity Services, Intrusion Detection Systems, Authentication Systems, Data Center Technologies, Packet Capture and Analysis, IPV4 and IPV6, Unified Communications, and VoIP Technologies, Packet Analysis - the ability to troubleshoot complex network issues using network protocol analyzers.

  • Experience with network monitoring tools (e.g., Wireshark, SolarWinds, Nagios, PRTG) and diagnostic tools (ping, traceroute, etc.).

  • Ability to troubleshoot complex network issues using network protocol analyzers and network monitoring tools (SolarWinds, Wireshark, Nagios, PRTG etc.)

  • In-depth knowledge of networking protocols such as TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLANs, and routing protocols (e.g., OSPF, BGP, EIGRP).

  • Strong understanding of cloud networking (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud).

  • Experience with network automation and/or software-defined networking solutions (e.g., Cisco ACI, Python, Ansible, or similar).

  • Experience with cloud networking and hybrid IT environments.

  • Advanced knowledge of network protocols (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, HTTP, BGP, OSPF, etc.).

  • Strong problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to identifying and resolving issues.

  • Knowledge of VoIP and other specialized technologies.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams and explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.

  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.

  • Ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
