Senior Windows Systems Administrator
Overview
Kearfott is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Windows Systems Administrator to join our dynamic IT team. In this critical role, you will be responsible for the design, implementation, and administration of our core Windows server infrastructure, storage solutions, and virtual environments. You will leverage your deep technical expertise to ensure the reliability, security, and performance of our systems, playing a key role in supporting our business operations. The ideal candidate is a proactive problem-solver with a strong understanding of best practices and a passion for technology.
Essential Functions
Technology Functions:
* Server Infrastructure: Design, build, configure, and maintain both bare metal and virtual Windows servers to meet business requirements.
* Storage Infrastructure: Design, build, and administer our storage infrastructure, ensuring optimal performance, availability, and data integrity.
* Group Policy Management: Design, implement, and administer Group Policies (GPOs) to manage user and computer settings, enforce security policies, and streamline system administration.
* Operating System Administration: Perform advanced Windows server administration tasks, including user and group management, patch management, performance monitoring, and system troubleshooting.
* Virtualization: Design, build, and administer virtual environments utilizing technologies such as VMware or Hyper-V.
* Troubleshooting: Diagnose and resolve complex issues related to Windows operating systems, hardware, and applications in a timely and efficient manner.
* Active Directory: Design, build, and manage Active Directory domains and forests, including trust relationships, organizational units (OUs), and user/group accounts.
* Domain Controllers: Build, configure, and maintain domain controllers, ensuring the health and availability of Active Directory services.
* Networking Fundamentals: Demonstrate a strong understanding of networking concepts and be capable of configuring network settings (TCP/IP, DNS, routing) on servers.
* DNS/DHCP: Build, administer, and troubleshoot DNS (Domain Name System) and DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol) services.
* File and Print Services: Build, administer, and troubleshoot file and print services, ensuring secure and reliable access to shared resources.
* Security: Implement and manage security policies, including user rights assignments, security auditing, and hardening of server systems.
* Backup and Recovery: Design, implement, and administer a comprehensive server and data backup environment utilizing Veeam, ensuring data recoverability and business continuity.
* Application Deployment: Deploy and manage applications in a variety of environments, including installation, configuration, and troubleshooting.
* Cloud Administration: Administer cloud computing environments (e.g., O365, Azure, AWS), including virtual machines, storage, and networking services.
* Automation: Develop and maintain PowerShell scripts to automate routine administrative tasks and improve efficiency.
* Documentation: Create and maintain comprehensive documentation of system configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting steps.
* Collaboration: Work effectively with other IT team members and stakeholders to ensure seamless IT operations.
Project Management:
* Manages single and multi-site projects within the Systems and Services team or cross-functional areas
* Follows instructions and completes assigned tasks while clearly communicating progress and results to both management and team
* Works with peers to complete project tasks
* Provides mentoring and leadership
* Is excellent at defining and prioritizing tasks
* Ensures projects meet the timeline, cost and quality requirements
* Identifies significant process improvement opportunities and works to implement these
Qualifications:
* Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
* Minimum of 5-7 years of experience as a Windows Systems Administrator, with increasing levels of responsibility.
* Proven experience in designing, building, and administering Windows Server environments (all current versions).
* Extensive experience designing, implementing, and managing Active Directory domains and forests, including GPOs and trust relationships.
* Hands-on experience with virtualization technologies (VMware or Hyper-V).
* Strong understanding of storage technologies (SAN, NAS, DAS).
* Experience with designing and implementing backup and recovery solutions, specifically utilizing Veeam.
* Solid understanding of networking principles (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, routing, firewalls).
* Experience administering DNS and DHCP services.
* Familiarity with cloud computing platforms (Azure or AWS) and their administration.
* Proficiency in scripting languages, particularly PowerShell.
* Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
* Strong communication, interpersonal, and documentation skills.
* Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
* Ability to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Qualifications:
* Relevant certifications (e.g., Microsoft Certified: Windows Server Hybrid Administrator Associate, VMware Certified Professional, CompTIA Server+).
* Experience with configuration management tools (e.g., Ansible, Chef).
* Experience with monitoring and alerting tools.
* Knowledge of security best practices and compliance standards.
In compliance with pay transparency requirements, the salary range for this role in New Jersey is $100,000 - $140,000 Annually. This is not a guarantee of compensation or salary, as final offer amount may vary based on factors including but not limited to job-related knowledge and skills, experience, and internal consistency.
