Position Description:

We are seeking a Cardiopulmonary Perfusionist to join our dynamic surgical services team in Milwaukee. In this role, you'll provide critical support for a wide range of complex procedures, including cardiac surgery, transplant (heart, lung, liver), regional chemotherapeutic perfusions (such as HIPEC, limb, and liver perfusion), and mechanical circulatory support. You will be responsible for operating heart-lung machines and other extracorporeal equipment, managing perfusion during surgery, and supporting post-operative care when necessary.

This position offers exposure to both advanced clinical practice and academic medicine in a highly collaborative, multidisciplinary environment.

Responsibilities
  • Set up, prime, operate, and monitor cardiopulmonary bypass and other extracorporeal circuits during surgery

  • Support procedures including cardiac surgery, transplant, and regional chemotherapy perfusion

  • Administer medications, blood products, and fluids via extracorporeal circuits under supervision of the attending physician

  • Monitor and document patient status throughout procedures and maintain communication with the surgical team

  • Troubleshoot equipment issues and respond to emergent clinical situations as needed

  • Clean, maintain, and inventory equipment; ensure availability of required disposables

  • Transport and set up perfusion equipment throughout the hospital as needed

  • Support CPS and ECMO system preparation and operation

  • Participate in staff education and training, including equipment use and safety

  • Provide technical support for research involving cardiothoracic procedures

  • Contribute to evaluations of new technology and equipment purchases



Knowledge - Skills - Abilities

Knowledge of techniques, methods, and procedures of cardiopulmonary perfusion. Ability to integrate and interpret findings on the basis of general medical knowledge and to exercise independent judgment in relation to the technical aspects of the job duties. Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Strong clinical judgment and attention to detail. Ability to work in high-acuity surgical and critical care environments

Monday - Friday 8:00-5:00 and on call



Position Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:

Appropriate experience may be substituted for education on an equivalent basis

  • Minimum Required Education: Associate degree in cardiopulmonary perfusion
  • Minimum Required Experience: Previous cardiopulmonary perfusion experience preferred.
