Job Family Description

Training personnel design, develop and deliver training programs to enhance the skills and knowledge, and ensure required qualifications, of employees within the organization. They assess training needs, develop curriculum, and facilitate workshops or training sessions tailored to specific learning objectives. Additionally, they evaluate training outcomes and adjust strategies as necessary to ensure continuous improvement in employee performance and organizational effectiveness.

Discipline Description

Operations and technical training personnel design and develop operations and technical training materials, including manuals, presentations, and online modules. They ensure that content is relevant, up-to-date, and aligned with organizational goals. They analyze employee learning needs and partner with subject matter experts and operations/technical management to provide input for course content. They plan and coordinating skills assessments and training, and they develop and monitor metrics for evaluating training and development effectiveness.

Some Typical Duties & Responsibilities Include:

Under limited supervision, performs a variety of instructional support functions including analysis, design, development, implementation, evaluation, and maintenance of training for Operations, Maintenance and Engineering personnel. Using effective training methods provides trainees with the knowledge and skills required to perform their jobs safely and competently. May help junior training staff members in performing training activities.
* Design, develop, review, revise and deliver training for Operations Maintenance and Engineering personnel to obtain and maintain qualifications and certifications.
* Design training to include objectives based on skills, knowledge, and abilities; sequence of instruction; training methods and settings.
* Complete and maintain qualification for an Instructor, Developer, and Instructional Technologist in accordance with Manual 4B, Training and Qualification Program.
* Conduct training needs, job, and task analyses on assigned projects.
* Design, develop, and implement training associated with the Documented Safety Analysis (DSA) and Technical Safety Requirements (TSR).
* Develop and maintain task lists and task-to-training matrices.
* Develop test items which measure trainee performance, are consistent with cognitive level of objectives, ensure predictive validity, and other evaluation instruments.
* Develop training materials addressing target audiences, using a variety of media, and providing varied learning experiences.
* Revise training materials based on feedback from student/instructor evaluations; and as changes occur to procedures, practices, policy, or other information on which the training is based.
* Perform classroom preparation to include verification of classroom training materials, printing rosters and classroom materials (handouts, student guide, etc.).
* Present classroom instruction and conduct on-the-job training.
* Discuss Operating Experiences/Lessons Learned in training presentations.
* Assist trainees with using interactive training tools.
* Monitor and promote trainee achievement of learning objectives.
* Conduct trainee evaluation and remediation.
* Maintain accurate records and files in support of training (i.e., rosters, examinations, transmittal of training records).
* Perform evaluation of training effectiveness by conducting end-of-course evaluations and compiling exam results data.
* Guide junior training staff members in instructor skills, and training analysis, design, and development processes.
* Perform varied training administration tasks such as duplication/production of training materials, completion of paper or electronic training forms; navigating the Learning Management System; and other duties as assigned.
* Remain current in field(s) of expertise and continually enhance technical knowledge and skills.
May be required to respond to audit and surveillance reports (Internal and external) on training activities. May be required to develop responses/corrective actions using the Site Tracking Analysis & Reporting System (STAR) to findings and track these items to closure in a timely manner.

Required Qualifications

* Bachelor's degree in relevant field plus at least five years of experience (YOE) in a relevant role, OR Master's degree in relevant field plus at least two years of experience (YOE), OR Doctoral degree in relevant field
* Equivalencies to experience and education requirements will be considered

A college degree with relevant experience in education or in the field being instructed.
* Experience and technical knowledge associated with working in a nuclear facility.
* Working knowledge of the Documented Safety Analysis (DSA) and Technical Safety Requirements (TSR).
* Expertise in the content of assigned courses sufficient to evaluate the relative importance of concepts, generalizations of concepts, and application to various jobs to pinpoint causes of deficiencies in performance.
* Qualify as an Instructor in accordance with Manual 4B, Training & Qualification Program. Instructors are expected to remain current in their fields of expertise and are strongly encouraged to continually enhance their technical knowledge and skills.
* Familiarity with applicable Federal Laws, DOE orders, Company policies and procedures is also required.
Working knowledge of the Systematic Approach to Training process.

Security Clearance Information

SRNS is required by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug & alcohol test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, criminal records, and employment history, and education verifications. Positions with SRNS may require applicants to obtain and maintain a DOE L or Q-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship. Factors such as pre-employment background review results, dual citizenship status, and unpaid and/or unfiled taxes may impact your ability to obtain a security clearance.
