JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Penn State Schuylkill seeks a dynamic and knowledgeable Assistant Coach / Defensive Coordinator to support the continued growth and success of its Women's Flag Football program. The ideal candidate will bring a strong understanding of defensive strategies, leadership skills, and a passion for mentoring student-athletes. This part-time position works under the direction of the Head Coach and in alignment with university policies, the Atlantic East Conference, and NCAA DIII guidelines.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Serve as the Defensive Coordinator, developing and implementing all defensive schemes, adjustments, and game plans.

  • Assist in all aspects of coaching, including practices, games, team meetings, and player development.

  • Analyze game film and provide individualized feedback to improve defensive performance and technique.

  • Lead defensive position drills and coach players in proper fundamentals, reads, and situational awareness.

  • Support the recruitment of prospective student-athletes in coordination with the Head Coach.

  • Uphold and promote the academic success, personal development, and overall well-being of all team members.

  • Attend all scheduled team activities, including practices (fall and spring), meetings, scrimmages, and travel for games, including spring break exhibition travel to Florida.

  • Demonstrate a commitment to Penn State University's standards of integrity, compliance, and student-centered engagement.

Qualifications

  • Prior experience coaching flag football or tackle football, particularly on the defensive side of the ball.

  • Strong understanding of defensive strategy, schemes, and player development.

  • Ability to work evenings, weekends, and travel as required.

  • Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills.

  • Valid driver's license and ability to meet University driving standards.

  • Ability to obtain and maintain necessary clearances (PA Child Abuse, FBI Fingerprinting, and PA Criminal Background Check)

  • Previous collegiate playing or coaching experience.

Time Commitment

  • Estimated 10-15 hours per week during the fall non-traditional season (August-October) and the spring competitive season (January-April).

  • Includes evening practices, weekend games, occasional travel, and spring break exhibition trip.

BACKGROUND CHECKS/CLEARANCES

This position requires the following clearances in addition to applicable background checks: PA State Police Criminal Background Check, PA Child Abuse History Clearance Form, and Federal (FBI) Fingerprint Criminal Background Check. This position requires that you operate a motor vehicle as a part of your job duties. A valid driver's license and successful completion of a motor vehicle records check will be required in addition to standard background checks.
