This is GW Softball
Reporting to the Director of Athletics (or designee), the Head Coach, Softball oversees the Softball program is responsible for the following duties:
- Develops schedules for practice and competition, to include interfacing with both Department and University administrators.
- Manages clinics, exhibitions, and camps, as approved.
- Scouts and recruits student-athletes, to include monitoring on-campus visits of prospective students within University and NCAA guidelines.
- Plans and coordinates approved fund raising activities and operates within approved budget allocations.
- Represents the Department at professional, civic, charitable and alumni events.
- Monitors the conditioning and training of student-athletes, in conjunction with the Strength and Conditioning Coach and the Athletic Training Staff.
- Assists with the planning and administration of the off-season training program, as required.
- Coaches and trains student-athletes, to include evaluating their performance in both practice and competition and provides leadership and instruction in these areas.
- Participates in public relations activities, as approved, to include granting interviews with newspaper, radio and television media, attending press conferences and making public appearances.
- Counsels team members in academics, disciplinary and personal matters, to include consulting with the Academic Coordinators for Student-Athletes and other University administrators to resolve problems.
- Assists in monitoring both class and study hall attendance.
- Travels with the team and monitors the conduct of student-athletes.
- Maintains statistics.
- Monitors the condition of equipment and makes repairs or replacement, as necessary.
The position is based at GW's Mount Vernon Campus in Washington, DC but will require significant domestic travel for games and events. The incumbent may perform other related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position. |
Minimum Qualifications: |
Qualified candidates will hold a Bachelor's degree in an appropriate area of specialization plus 5 years of relevant professional experience, or, a Master's degree or higher in a relevant area of study plus 3 years of relevant professional experience. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. |
Additional Required Licenses/Certifications/Posting Specific Minimum Qualifications: |

Preferred Qualifications: |
- Five or more years of softball coaching experience preferred.
- Head coaching experience preferred.
- Coaching experience at the NCAA Division I level preferred.
- Demonstrated recruiting experience, administrative skills and knowledge of NCAA Division I rules and regulations.
- Strong leadership, relationship-building, and communication skills.
