We are looking for a detail-oriented, tech-savvy professional to support and enhance OUC's Energy Management System (EMS), Pi Historian, and other real-time operational tools critical to grid reliability.

In this role, you will be responsible for maintaining real-time system databases, implementing EMS network applications, supporting OATI energy scheduling software, and ensuring compliance with NERC Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) standards. You will also assist in designing EMS screens, configuring system patches, and helping to improve operational efficiency across the utility. We are looking for a curious and self-motivated engineer with a strong foundation in power systems, a passion for innovation, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, mission-critical environment.

This role offers a flexible hybrid schedule with in-office collaboration on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. To support your success, you'll participate in hands-on, onsite training 4 to 5 days a week during the initial onboarding period.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited institution (required)
  • Hands-on experience or strong foundational knowledge in EMS applications, OATI energy scheduling software, Pi Historian systems, and power system operations
  • Familiarity with NERC-CIP standards and an understanding of real-time power system operations and compliance environments
  • Self-motivated, proactive, and detail-oriented approach, with the ability to troubleshoot complex systems, learn quickly, communicate clearly, and contribute to process improvement initiatives

Salary Range: $80,771 - $ 100,963 annually - commensurate with experience

Job Purpose:

Under general direction of the Sr Engineer, implement and maintain OUC's Energy Management System (EMS), Pi Historian, Bulk Power System (BPS) model and advanced real-time tools. Assist in the maintenance of OATI energy accounting and scheduling software applications.

Primary Functions:

  • Maintain real-time database, stations, infrastructure and network applications model;
  • Implement and maintain EMS Advanced Network Applications software and solve general EMS issues as assigned;
  • Maintain Open Access Technology International (OATI) software regarding energy accounting and scheduling and assist with developing training material for OATI and EMS software functionality;
  • Ensure the administration of operation system (patching, testing, etc.) remains compliant with North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) standards;
  • Design EMS screens, functions and calculations;
  • Assist with (Pi) Historian, Application Framework and Visualization System to ensure OUC Operations requirements are being met;
  • Support OUC's Operational Planning staff regarding Advanced Network Applications software;
  • Attend training related to operating systems, software programming, transmission planning and operations to acquire, develop and stay current on essential skills and knowledge;
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Technical Requirements:

  • Working knowledge of all, but not limited to the following:
  • Electric Engineering Systems, Operating Systems, and Power Systems;
  • OATI applications/EMS applications;
  • Source Database Builder;
  • Display Editor and Script Editing;
  • Transmission Network Applications;
  • NERC standards;
  • Operator's Manual;
  • Electric System Drawings;
  • Software Applications (i.e. VMWare (cloud/virtualization software), KASEYA (OT systems management software) AutoCAD, EMS, OATI, Pi System (Historian, Application Framework, Vision, Pi Cloud link, Pi Data Link, Pi Business Integrator;
  • Security Information and Event Management (SIEM);
  • Related industry, organizational and departmental policies, practices, and procedures; legal guidelines, ordinances, and laws;
  • Prepare and/or process various types of reports (i.e. NERC/ FERC/ FRCC reports, network and contingency analysis reports, balancing authority and TOP energy reports, etc.);
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written;
  • Comprehend, use and derive electric engineering calculations;
  • Able to program using a High Level Language;
  • Be self-motivated and a team player, able to work under pressure;
  • Ability to use virtual servers;
  • Ability to use and derive Electric Engineering Calculations;
  • Ability to make arithmetic computations using whole numbers, fractions and decimals, compute rates, ratios and percentages;
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.) and standard office equipment (telephone, computer, copier, etc.).

Education/ Certification/ Years of Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited college or university;
  • Certification to be completed within 1 (one) year of hire:
