Your Role as Advising Specialist - College Access The Advising Specialist is responsible for providing support to high school students who are seeking to earn a college degree in the areas of college exploration, the college application process, financial aid, scholarships, career exposure, campus connection, and more via in-person and virtual methods in both group and 1:1 settings. This is a part-time position requiring 25 hours per week working with juniors and seniors enrolled in College Possible's program. As an Advising Specialist - College Access, You Will:
- Guide and educate students in support of their academic, personal, and professional development and success.
- Collaborate with partner institution staff, faculty and administration on student success and persistence.
- Promote and help develop student engagement, academic success strategies, experiential learning, and other high impact activities to support student persistence.
- Advocate for students, collaborating and communicating with institution staff, faculty, and administration and College Possible team members.
Primary Responsibilities Direct Student Support - 70%
- Follow, deliver, and ensure students access to College Possible's structured college curriculum, which supports students in four areas: Apply Smart, Be Financially Fit, Plan with a Passion and Purpose, and Transition Strong
- Coach students toward reaching milestones, including, but not limited to: Complete "Complete college applications, submit financial aid applications, compare and accept financial aid packages, and complete enrollment tasks.
- Complete enrollment conferences with high school seniors annually
- Based on curriculum and student data, create and implement support plans for each student.
- Maintain ongoing communication with all students in caseload
- Lead workshops on high school campuses
- Meet with students 1:1 both virtually and on high school campus
- Respond to all student text/calls/emails within 2 business days.
- Support the recruitment of new high school students, including in-person recruitment events on high school campuses
- Help students resolve obstacles that come up throughout the school year by coaching them on self-advocacy and resourcefulness skills
- Refer students to appropriate resources when needed. Use College Possible's suite of digital tools to communicate and support students, including our proprietary Salesforce Platform, AI tools, and student-facing portal.
Data Management and Reporting - 20%
- Track and record student progress, using both quantitative and qualitative measures
- Enter and maintain current student data in CoPilot, a Salesforce based CRM
- Maintain accurate student contact information and records in the student database
- Identify, run and synthesize reports into a presentable form to share key information about student trends and milestone progress.
Program Support - 5%
- Attend key events, including college visits
- Represent College Possible at each school site and build sustainable relationships with school staff and other community partners
- Additional program support as assigned by Program Manager
Organizational Support - 5%
- Support the External Relations Team by attending events, networking with guests/ supporters, and providing event logistics as needed
- Represent the College Possible brand in a positive light and take actions to increase brand awareness throughout the community
- Other duties as assigned
You Will Need: Education
- Bachelor's degree in education, social or human sciences, business, or other related field(s) required
Experience
- 1-3 years teaching, mentoring, advising, and/or coaching college students, or related roles demonstrating a commitment to the power of education.
- Development of effective, targeted text, email, and in-person college student communications.
- Collaboration and partnership building which demonstrates excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Problem-solving and adaptation to changing situations and environments.
- Finding, reading, comprehending, utilizing, and presenting information in an effective and efficient manner.
- Written and in-person communications with professional teams.
- Presentations to small and large groups, showing effective speaking, engagement, and influencing skills.
Computer/Software Skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Teams, as well as in Google, Google Drive and Docs
- Experience with CRM systems preferred.
Other
- Ability to lift up to 15 pounds as needed
- Ability to stand and/or sit for a minimum of 8 hours a day
- Mobility to move across campuses and/or travel to College Possible site as needed
*Please note this role is remote*. However, this role will require to be on a designated campus four times a week. There will also be a requirement to meet in person as a team 2-3 times a month in a designated area. Locations: Racine, WI and Stevens Point, WI - we will hire one person per location - must reside in a commutable distance from these locations and have reliable transportation.
