Dr. Angela Dixon leads a multidisciplinary research program that integrates diverse tools to model neurological diseases, replicate nervous system architecture, and create innovative health-monitoring sensors inspired by central and peripheral nervous system physiology. Current research focuses on using insect and mammalian models to investigate olfactory sensory neurobiology and develop advanced olfaction-based biohybrid systems. The interdisciplinary team includes members in biology, engineering, and related fields.

Position Overview:

We are seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher or research scientist to conduct olfaction-related studies and contribute to the development of chemical sensing devices. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in neuronal electrophysiology and neural activity data analysis. Additional skills in olfaction, electroantennography (EAG), microscopy, and programming (Python, Matlab) are highly desirable.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct insect electrophysiology experiments and analyze neural activity data.
  • Participate in the design and optimization of insect-based sensing devices.
  • Mentor graduate and undergraduate students as needed.
  • Contribute to drafting research manuscripts and grant proposals.
  • Be open to creative problem-solving and learning new techniques.

Appointment Details:

  • Initial appointment: One year, with potential for renewal based on performance and funding availability.
  • Salary: Commensurate with experience and aligned with University guidelines.
  • Women and underrepresented minorities are strongly encouraged to apply.

Application Process:

Qualified candidates should submit the following to Dr. Angela Dixon at angela.r.dixon@case.edu:

  1. A curriculum vitae (CV).
  2. A cover letter detailing research experience and interests.
  3. Two sample publications.
  4. Contact information for two professional references.
