Ciena is seeking a passionate and experienced Director of Manager & Leadership Development to join our People Success team within the People & Culture organization. Reporting to VP People Success, this individual will play a crucial role in defining and executing a progressive manager and leadership development strategy that cultivates a strong leadership pipeline and builds world class manager capabilities. The successful candidate should be located near a Ciena office - either in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada OR Hanover, Maryland, USA, or London, England.

Key Responsibilities:

Thought Leadership & Strategy

Develop a progressive strategy for leadership and management development. Including;

  • Research leading edge approaches that organizations can take to develop capabilities and cultivate strong leadership pipeline. Provide insights about trends, innovations, learning content, assessment and delivery.
  • Gather internal stakeholder feedback on the current gaps in leadership and management development and the areas of focus needed to underpin Ciena's growth ambition. Review employee sentiment about managerial capabilities, identifying key themes and areas that require focus.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of existing manager and leadership development programs; content, delivery, impact and costs.
  • Recommend and implement a multi-year manager and leadership development strategy aligned with Ciena's leadership framework and business objectives (following the 70,20,10 model)
  • Provide recommendations for gaining leader and manager mindshare to invest in their personal skills development.
  • Partner with Senior Director Learning & Development, to integrate and later evolve the Ciena durable skills framework. Integration to Ciena enterprise leadership and high potential strategies.
  • Partner with relevant stakeholders in P&C to ensure the Manager and Leadership learning curriculum supports enterprise leadership succession planning.

Program Design & Delivery

  • Design and deliver innovative manager and leadership programs leveraging diverse learning modalities (self-paced, and experiential, bite size & omni channel, including the use of learning apps). Partner with stakeholders to develop and deliver relevant content.
  • Work collaboratively with the Ciena L&D team to design and deliver enterprise programs, (for example, Thrive, Conscious Inclusion, High Potential programs, Enterprise Learning).
  • Propose strategies for non curriculum learning & development. For example, on the job experiences, learning from others.
  • Agree measures of success for all learning curriculum
  • Manage program implementation (vendor selection, budget, logistics, communication).
  • Facilitate impactful learning experiences for all leadership levels.

Measurement & Continuous Improvement

  • Establish learning metrics to measure program effectiveness and ROI.
  • Track program data, identify improvement areas, and communicate impact to stakeholders.

Collaboration & Partnership

  • Foster strong relationships within People & Culture and key business leaders to align leadership development initiatives to strategy.
  • Stay current on emerging trends and innovative leadership development solutions.

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • 10+ years of progressive experience in leadership development or talent management, with a proven track record of designing, delivering, and implementing successful leadership programs in a global organization.
  • Strong understanding of adult learning principles, instructional design, and diverse learning methodologies.
  • Proven ability to leverage technology and innovative approaches for enhanced learning.
  • Excellent program/project management and organizational skills.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking abilities.
  • Exceptional communication, interpersonal, and facilitation skills to engage stakeholders at all levels.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.

Pay Range:

  • The salary range for this role in Canada is $114, 000 - $182, 000
  • The salary range for this role in USA is $129, 700 - $207, 100
  • The salary range for this role in London, England will be discussed with the Recruiter

Pay ranges at Ciena are designed to accommodate variations in knowledge, skills, experience, market conditions, and locations, reflecting our diverse products, industries, and lines of business. Please note that the pay range information provided in this posting pertains specifically to the primary location, which is the top location listed in case multiple locations are available.

Non-Sales employees may be eligible for a discretionary incentive bonus, while Sales employees may be eligible for a sales commission.
